I know this question has been asked before, so please forgive me. But, I'm starting to try to really get into AoS. I bought the starter box, and then I looked at the prices of additional units on GW's site. Compared to 40K, the vast majority of WHFB/AoS models are relatively inexpensive. Compared to Stormcast Eternals, the vast majority of 40K is relatively inexpensive making the rest of AoS very inexpensive. The only 40K faction that I can think of that gets close to the cost of Stormcast Eternals is Tyranids. Those make sense because of all the extra bits and very different models that can be created with each kit. I don't think the Stormcast Eternals are the same way. I'm very confused.

Do they come with as many options as Terminators do for the same price? Like GW price for Dark Angels Deathwing Terminators is $60. But, they come with a large amount of weapons that you can choose from to outfit those Terminators. On top of that, that particular kit can make a five man Deathwing Command Squad, five man Deathwing Knights, or a five man Deathwing Terminator Squad with several different weapon choices.
Do the Stormcast Eternals come with all of these choices and extra bits to customize them exactly like you want to? If so, then the ~$60 price tag is completely understandable. If not, I'm still a bit suspect.
Thanks in advance

They do come with quite the weapon options. Not sure if it justifies their pricing for you, though.

They're about the same price as all the other new GW kits that are around the same size, on those sizes of bases.
The way GW does its prices in the last while is that it doesn't increase the price of old models across the board each year; instead, it puts all the inflation onto the price of the latest models. So, the new models are much more expensive than models that are a lot older.
One could argue that the new models are also more sophisticated, and that the ones post-2010 are just much cleaner and crisper, but that's only interesting to people who care about the modelling aspect.

GW models are basically expensive. You can't expect GW to put out the models for AoS for lower than their typical prices when the rules are free, depriving GW of the income from books.

If there's a rhyme or reason to their pricing, it is "as much as we think people will pay."

I can somewhat understand/accept the pricing of the Venator and the Azyros... somewhat - the only character that comes out as extremely overpriced is the prime. Good grief is that thing expensive for what it is.

Bah, since it's a "Special Character", it's not like you "have to" buy a lot of those.
Prices are high but to be honest, Stormcast Eternals are quite "Elite" forces, so you usually play them in "small numbers" so that it "feels fair". They are quite good that way as well.
And besides, that's the price of your GW collection.

I think the Stormcast should all be cheaper if they are intended to be the gateway army to AoS like Space Marines are to 40k.
I thought they were meant to be exploring different pricing points or something to that effect from the last financial report? So far the only great value box after the starter set has been the bloodreavers imo.

You missed the important GW market equation. If something looks like something else, it should be charged the same.
Stormcast Eternals look like Terminators. Terminators are 50$; therefore, Stormcast Eternals are 50$

Yep. I understand those will be the reasons. Still, I think GW should have made the Stormcast cheaper to help soften the blow when new players want to expand on the starter set.

Yes, I can't see too many people buying the Liberators box. Why buy them when you can get the Paladins, a much more elite unit, for just a few more bucks? I think they should have had more models in the Lib box or made it cheaper.

In game terms? Paladins are slower, aren't as survivable (even with more wounds), and don't get the "Lay low the Tyrant" rule, which is surprisingly good. Also, the Paladins are all pretty specialised for different roles, Liberators are your core troops - not as good, but also not as bad.
They're also more common in the warscroll battalions.
Aesthetically? Lines on the Liberator kits are cleaner/simpler - a lot of ornamentation on the Paladins. Some people no likey.

The purpose of the starter kit is to recruit players, teach them the basic rules and give them enough figures to have a game that is fun enough but limited enough to make them want to buy more.
GW really start to make money from the new recruits who go on to buy a scenario book (£45) a couple of scenery boxes (£70) and a couple more boxes of figures (£60), not to mention modelling tools and paints.
The whole game is a lot smaller than WHFB. You need a lot fewer figures to play it, in fact it doesn't play well with armies the size of typical WHFB armies. However GW need to make more money out of you buying your army than they did out of someone buying a WHFB army. Therefore it is inevitable that the individual figures will be a lot more expensive.

Sure. The problem in my opinion is the individual prices per model are so different between the starter set and the boxes that it is likely to put users off.
The thing is people assign value to something based on the price they were first sold it. Of course everyone can understand that starter sets or bundles come at cheaper prices, but I think with the Stormcast we are now seeing a massive gap more than ever due to GW's good value starter sets and high price "dual-build" kits.

Unfortunately i don't think we'll see that gap stabilizing anytime soon. AoS has provided GW with yet another reason to raise its price-per-model tag all across the table (models are bigger, a bit more detailed and most of the boxes are now dual kits for a bundle of price-increasing excuses) and then hiking it up to tremendous prices on the Elite/ SC slots. You can also see this price increase in the books, though it's not as steep - it mostly happened during ET.
And, naturally, 40k will follow along - just look at the Tau.

For me, the $tormcast's price is not that shocking. Compared to my PP Cygnar models, $tormcast are about 50% more expensive per model. Compared to Malifaux, though, the prices are mostly the same (again per model). To avoid any confusion I'm comparing them to standard model boxes (not crews). This may differ in other countries, but here this is the case (again, compared with what I've bought and browsed in my local retailer's shop). Yeah, I can remember when AoBR and Fantasy starters were 50 quid and even earlier when I bought 10 orc boyz for 12 euro, but times change.
If nothing else this showcases that reasonably well made miniatures are not that cheap.

I disagree there. It showcases that the power of a brand can drive fans to purchase goods at absurdly inflated prices, not what you're saying.

Well Malifaux is certainly not as big as Warhammer, but it still sells well enough here and I know and there are customers that are just collectors - they do not play. They continue to pay GW prices for a weaker brand. When we were starting DZC here (pity it did not hold) we threw around 500 euro per man in the first 2 months. What brand does DZC have? It's still a kickstarter funded game. Mantic's models were not liked at all hence no one bought these. If there is a trend here (as in where I am) it is the following - if a person likes a model and it is reasonably priced for his budget he will buy it regardless of which company makes it, provided he plays the appropriate game. In the other case, where the person is just a collector, he will buy it either way - hobbyists are just used to such prices and many have moved beyond the worry of how much they are being ripped off (relative to the manufacturing cost of the model), provided they are offered to buy something they like at a price they're willing to pay.
