We Canucks elected a new government and leader yesterday. Liberal majority from third-place status, longest campaign in a long time, first genuine three-way race, first father-son dynasty.
I for one have a lot of hope for the potential he and his team show, and hope that they get right to work with their promises, many of which reflected my major concerns: get military procurement under control, start democratic reform, and legalize marijuana.

Jesus Christ. The guy promised that he'd do it in his campaign, and was elected. God forbid he actually keep the promises he was elected on. He also ran on increasing the number of refugees that Canada will take in, and helping train Iraqi forces. He obviously absolutely hates everyone in the area.

On topic though, I like this. The guys policies seem fairly sensible to me, he has a fairly down to earth(ish) background, having worked as a teacher for a while, and he's only twice as old as me, which makes him ridiculously young by the normal standard of politicians.

For now it seems, I always knew that the whole push by Harper for the Keystone Pipeline was a result of Obama pressuring him to use it as a cover to channel our maple syrup across the border over to the U.S. in vast quantities. Hopefully Trudeau cleans out this plan and sends over ravenous beavers instead, we'll show you Canadian bacon!

I'm normally an NDP supporter, but Mulcair and his team really botched the campaign. They went too far to the center to get votes and lost their focus.
I'm still opposed to one or two of the Libs promises, but I ended up voting for them just to get Harper out of office. Mostly happy. Here's to hoping he follows through on the voting reform promise, as that was really one of my most important issues. The fact that they rode in a majority with ~40% of the popular vote makes me skeptical, but hopeful.
A lot of good people in the party though. Libs are in a good spot right now.
Here's to hoping the NDP find themselves and remember their roots as a real left wing socialist democratic party.

I'm sorry, but Trudurp is going to ruin this country. Take a good long look at what's happened to Ontario under over a decade of Lieberal mismanagement & corruption. Now enjoy as our stupidity gets exported nation wide.
Yes, Harper came across as being about as warm as a porcupine, but he did a helluva lot of good for our country. Now we're getting a feel-good lightweight, who's going to "grow the economy from the heart outwards." On top of "the budget will balance itself."
But congrats Canada... on becoming 'Greece North'.

Please List a single good thing the Cons did. I know that you are going to say "The Economy", but I think that is really just Conservative spin, and exploitation of an oil bubble.
Versus:
-Muzzling Scientists
-Rampant corruption
-Apparent disdain for the political process (Prorogation, Omnnibus bills, painful lack of transparency)
-Terrible Environmental policy
-Behaving like a chihuahua towards Russia (a lot of bark, comically little bite)
-Pandering to islamophobia (no-one has asked to wear a niqab in the civil service. Still a campaign issue.)
-Foot dragging on the refugee issue.

Ontario Liberals =/= Federal Liberals.
As far as many Canadians are concerned, Harper has ruined the country in many other ways than the economy.
Further, Trudeau hasn't promised to balance the budget in the short term.
*Edit* Yeah, as above. There's a longer list on reddit somewhere.
Really though, if the only thing the Libs do is electoral reform, I'm happy and the country will be significantly better off in the long run than the archaic FPTP system.

Sorry, but Turp-a-Durp is an absolutely massive tax-and-spend Liberal. His advisors are the same morons who've led Ontario to the point that our average salary is now 5% below the national average. (where beforehand it was more than 10% above the national average)
I know he's "promised" to balance to budget in his 4th year, but trust me, it won't happen... Like our fearless McWynnty government, Ju$tin will never meet a tax dollar he won't be able to piss away.

It is incredibly hard to take anything you say seriously when you start with petty and childish name calling.
is an absolutely massive tax-and-spend Liberal. His advisors are the same morons who've led Ontario to the point that our average salary is now 5% below the national average. (where beforehand it was more than 10% above the national average)
And no one is arguing that Wynne isn't a terrible Premier. The Liberals look to have a great selection of talented and knowledgeable MPs that can fill all the cabinet slots and perform well in their roles. Time will tell how it all plays out.
I know he's "promised" to balance to budget in his 4th year, but trust me, it won't happen... Like our fearless McWynnty government, Ju$tin will never meet a tax dollar he won't be able to piss away.
You cant's spend a country rich!
Remember how many surpluses Harper posted?
If you're going to be worried about deficits and the like, at least show some amount of rational thought and admit that Harper didn't balance the budget often.
There is nothing good to come from a national leader who's only job experience is a few years as damn Drama teacher...
Except for winning all the elections he needed to get where he is now.
He didn't just go from being a teacher one day to Prime Minister.
