After pondering building a tank-heavy IG army and watching Fury too many times, I finally caved and picked up a models. My preliminary list so far includes the two Leman Russ tanks, Chimeras and Veteran squads that I've already put together. Sponson and hull guns aren't fixed. Harker is thrown in to fill a 55pt gap. I'm interested to get any and all feedback as I'm going for a semi-mobile, all round army. I'll be going up to 1,850pts once I get the hang of the army and figure out what's missing. The list is as follows.

HQ

Tank Commander Pask (70), Leman Russ Punisher (140), Multi-melta Sponsons (20), Dozer Blade (5) – 235pts
Leman Russ Executioner (155), Plasma Cannon Sponsons (30), Dozer Blade (5) – 190pts

3 Primaris Psykers - 150pts

Troops

Veteran Squad (60), 2x Melta-gun (20), Chimera (65), Heavy Flamer, Dozer Blade (5) – 150pts

Veteran Squad (60), 2x Melta-gun (20), Chimera (65), Heavy Flamer, Dozer Blade (5) – 150pts

Veteran Squad (60), 2x Melta-gun (20), Sergeant Harker (55) Chimera (65), Heavy Flamer, Dozer Blade (5) – 205pts

Elites

10 Tempestus Scions (130), 2x Hot Shot Volley Gun (20) – 150pts

Fast Attack

Valkyrie – 125pts

Heavy Support

2 Wyverns – 130pts

1,500pts in total

I don't feel harker is ever worth the points. Any reason taking him?

Well, I'm not overly impressed with him either, but the relentless rending when coming out of a Chimera is helpful. That being said, as the Vets can shoot six lasguns and two metlaguns without having to leave the Chimeras they're embarked in, it is a bit redundant. I completely see where you're coming from. I had 55 points going spare and that fit the bill.

Any ideas as to what to use instead?

What do you plan on doing with those scions and their volley guns? Most of the time I have scion units they are only ever good at harassing my opponents back field so maybe use 2 squads of 5 with 2 melta in each. Or if you want to use a 10 man unit maybe give them plasma guns so they can also still move around because the volley guns being salvo have a shorter range and less shots if they move and 10points for essentially a slightly longer range and +1 strength doesn't seem to be a trade off to me.

I was going for simply injecting some immediate AP3 into the middle of the table. I could do what you have suggested with two squads and meltas. On the rules side of things, there's nothing stopping the Valkyrie carrying two squads and dropping at separate times, is there?

Thanks for the input. I build this list around the advice of the guys at my FLGS, being very new to IG myself.

I've got to say, this a pretty solid list, good advice taking! I'm also going to put my vote in for Harker coming off of the list. Of course this is just me, but when I have used him, he isn't really that good, and definitely isn't worth his points.

I'm going to say spend the 55 points on a taurox (or put it towards one) as it'll keep your tempestus scions a little safer, like rhinos and chimeras do.

Also you're right, putting two squads of five in a Valkyrie could be a very good move, and can throw people off, thinking that there was only five of them, just to figure out that another five with melta are unloaded behind their tanks on the next turn.

The armies that I collect:

- Tyranids, 2,000 pts.
- Orks, 1,250 pts.
- Tau, 750 pts.
- Guard (PDF), 750 pts.

(Yes I have a thing for horde armies to some extent)

If there were ten points spare (without dropping the melta/volley from the Scions), that would give me 65 points to add in another Wyvern.

The issue with the Taurox, as cool as they are, is that the Scions are travelling in the Valkyrie.

Not true you can either fire the lasgun arrays OR fire out the top hatch.

The rules aren't too clear here, but it looks like the top hatch can be used by two models. The lasgun arrays allow a maximum of three per side provided those models are NOT using the fire point that turn.

Not overly thrilled with bumping a thread that's slipped down the list, but I think I've reworked the list for greater effect. I'll replace the Multi-meltas on Pask for heavy blotters (more shots, -10pts). This free up 65pts if I remove Harker, giving me space for a third Wyvern. I'll also swap the hot-shot volley guns for melta-guns and split the Scions into two units of five depending on what the game is calling for. A Psyker for each Vet squad should get me a few good buffs. Overall, I'm going for fast and efficient volume of fire. The updated list is as follows:

HQ

Tank Commander Pask (70), Leman Russ Punisher (140), Heavy Bolter Sponsons (10), Dozer Blade (5) – 225pts
Leman Russ Executioner (155), Plasma Cannon Sponsons (30), Dozer Blade (5) – 190pts

3 Primaris Psykers - 150pts

Troops

Veteran Squad (60), 2x Melta-gun (20), Chimera (65), Heavy Flamer, Dozer Blade (5) – 150pts

Veteran Squad (60), 2x Melta-gun (20), Chimera (65), Heavy Flamer, Dozer Blade (5) – 150pts

Veteran Squad (60), 2x Melta-gun (20), Chimera (65), Heavy Flamer, Dozer Blade (5) – 150pts

Elites

10 (or 5 & 5) Tempestus Scions (130), 2x Melta-gun (20) – 150pts

Fast Attack

Valkyrie – 125pts

Heavy Support

3 Wyverns – 195pts

I see two issues ..(a) No bubble wrap for the primaris and wyverns (b) 3 x level one psykers is not as good as 2 level 2 psykers

Why a Valkyrie instead of a Vendetta

I am assuming the wyverns are each in their own Heavy slot to maximize the pain

My plan was to put each psyker in with a Vet squad for near range buffs, one in each to maximise their output across the table. Without my codex to hand right now, two ML2 psykers is the same price as three ML1 psykers, so you're definitely onto something there.

The Valkyrie has a higher transport capacity, allowing me to safely transport all ten Scions.

As for bubble wrapping the Wyverns, I hadn't thought of that - good point. If they were to be taken as individual Heavy Support units, I could spread them out, maximise the pain (I like that phrase) and take advantage of whatever cover is available. I'd ideally like to have all corners of the board covered, but I'm certainly seeing where you're coming from. Maybe swapping out one of the Vets in a Chimera for a standard infantry platoon for bubble wrap would work, or even taking one to get me to 1,850pts as I build things up?

Thanks for the input!
