So the wife has been helping me pick models and such as upcoming birthday/Christmas gifts to help fill out my Empire of Dust army for Kings of War. I actually love, and own mountains of Mantic undead of all flavors, in addition to some Tomb Kings which I always wanted, and just needed an excuse to pick up.

Anyway, I have all kinds of fun models and proxies picked out, but I am stumbling with figuring out what an Idol of Shobik represents. Based on rules, I am thinking of making either it, or a Monolith out of a GW Casket of Souls. Mostly, I love the Casket and just want an good excuse to buy and paint one.

Any thoughts?

One suggestion that I have seen for The Idol of Shobik pretty much sealed it for me -

For Soul Snares I am adding arks to my units.

The Auld Grump

*EDIT* Ark as in 'ark of the covenant' - a box with poles so that it can be carried on the shoulders of the units.

Would recommend you scour ebay and the like for your models instead of buying them. Cheaper and doesn't give money to a terrible company that doesn't deserve it.

Um... ok? I do love, and support Mantic, mind you. In the last year, between work I did for them (often for free out of respect), or purchases I have made outright, I probably personally account for about $1000 with them. I think I supported a deserving company enough to fill out my armies with at least a few of my favorite models, no?

I think he probably meant GW as the terrible company, ie buying their expensive models to use as proxies.

Oh, I gathered... I've also played GW games for a decade. It IS ok to like both companies/games/products. :-p

And yeah, I appreciate the irony of using expensive models as proxies for those is so much more accessible/affordable of a game... but if someone has some favorite models, its ok too. :-p

I think that the problem is just that GW is not coming across as either nice people nor as good game designers at this point.

*Shrug*

Looking online for Tomb King starter boxes might be a good idea in any even - right now fols are offloading a lot of GW stuff, and Tomb Kings... did not fare all that well in Warhammer 8th ed., either. (A shame - the base troops and characters are just fine - but GW saddled them with some of the silliest looking monsters in their catalog. That said... I want to get the serpent surfers* - while silly, I really like those models.) If I do, those will be my first GW models in three and a half years.

Hmmm, I suddenly realized that the question had already been answered for me - I was digging through my Reaper Bones II Kickstarter boxes, and ran into this, in Bonesium -

The Avatar of Sokar.

In a little while it will pop up in the Reaper store in an inexpensive Bones release, but I already have it from the Kickstarter.

In metal he runs $23 or thereabouts.

Dude... that model is terrific. I'm a big fan of a lot of Bones models which have found their way into my KoW armies. He shall be the next.

Thanks!

I just looked up what the retail price is going to be for the figure in Bones...

A whopping $4, less than $3.50 at The War Store or other discounters.

Dang! I think that figure may be finding its way into a whole lot of Empire of Dust armies....

A lot of my characters for the army are also in Bones.

I don't know his name, but their is a Bonesium Skeleton King on throne looking guy that I bought just waiting for an excuse to add him to a KoW army.

Unless you demand the crispest detail, etc... Bonesium is one of the best things to happen to our hobby. Love that whole line.
