I have been using battle scribe and it helps but im not sure about all of the things.

Is it all good? Are there discrepancies? Is it bad to use?

Lots of people use it. Smart thing to do is to check the lists by hand the old fashioned way before you take it to an event. The people that program the army lists are only human and will make mistakes from time to time, but sitting down and writing a list in five minutes with little hassle is worth the occasional errors. There's a big thread on here somewhere to talk to some of the Devs, report issues and such.

I don't know what I'd do without it. Army builder is a better program, but it costs too much and isn't enough better. Battlescribe is free and does what I need it to do. Sure as hell beats trying to come up with army lists by hand (although it can be done).

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Sure beats carrying around codexs everywhere, think of an army idea, pop out your phone, see how it works. Also handy for opponents to see what's available etc.

It updates very often. Check the codex like everyone says to make sure that the Bscribe data is correct but I love the app. Highly worth paying for the premium version.

I use Battlescribe almost exclusively, although I always backcheck the codex just to be sure. Battlescribe is excellent gor throwing togetger a list on the fly, and is great for proofing my opponent's list.

I use it exclusively nowadays. I like the dropbox integration (so that I can work on a list at my computer, and have it automagically show up on my phone).

It's fairly accurate, though errors do crop up in list building. You'll just want to double-check your codex.

I do the same. Doing lists with a notebook takes much more time.

I use it to check if my opponent is a cheater. I input their list without upgrades. If the models alone are above the limit I know they cheating. I have caught so many people. The only exceptions are Demi/Gladius and War Convocation which gets free points.

I hate armybuilder format, however. They take the information I want to actually know, and manage to present it in the most difficult way possible to read. It's not a '10 man tactical squad with grav cannon, melta, combi-melta', it's 7 tactical marines with frag grenades, bolt pistol, bolter, veteran sergeant with.... blah blah blah there's way too much redundant information. I've heard there's an option to thin that out, but I've never seen anyone actually use it so I really don't care.

Battlescribe's format could use a little work, but it's far more readable. I've used both, and the actual list-building portion is mostly user preference. Also, unlike army builder, battle scribe is kind enough to actually sort units by force org slot automatically. I can't tell you how many times I've misread an opponent's list and got surprised by, say, an HQ unit because it was buried somewhere in the middle of their heavy support options in Armybuilder format. I've also seen more incorrect options in armybuilder than battlescribe, but errors are rare in both.

I will say, though, some people don't seem to realize that anyone with a modicum of computer knowledge can tweak their armybuilder/battlescribe data files and change point costs and stats at will.

It doesn't matter if someone else tweaks their database, as long as my database is correct.

It'd be nice if all the people who do 40k data files could get together and come up with a common format for doing things, but that's not the program's fault.

I use it for 40k, but not for anything else; most other games I play don't have the variety of options available that need tracking.

I use the premium version of battlescribe. It didn't cost much and it's a godsend not having to lug books around to all the league games I play for 40k. I use it mostly on my tablet instead of my phone though.

I use it. It's mostly correct and convienient but check with the Codex for competitive events.

The biggest problem I have with battlescribe (and it's GW's fault) is that each catalogue is made by a different person, and as such will incorporate their belief on how the rules work.

For example. Two codexes, both say "May swap one weapon for one relic."

Person A reads it as a limit and makes the catalogue such that you can only make a single swap.

Person B reads it as a ratio, and makes the catalogue such that you can take multiple relics by swapping an equal number of weapons.

End result you have two catalogues that work slightly different.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

What I've seen in this instance is that if you post on their feedback thread here, or send them feedback on their own forum/website, they will tend to correct these kinds of discrepancies.

The problem, is which reading is right? And while I am aware of the debates that occasionally pop up in YMDC on this issue, the fact of the matter is, both readings are potentially correct, and neither one is inherently wrong.

An example of this: BS's Canoptek Harvest still allows you to field a unit of Spyders instead of just one.

I thought that the harvest spyder amount depended on what the refs decided, or was it finally FAQ'd legit
