I'm thinking for a future project of doing an army based on what a Rogue Trader would bring to a battle (only if it's in his/her interests) but I'm not sure what that loss like. Maybe a core force of Elysian Drop Troops maybe with Orks or Dark Eldar as mercenary allies or maybe teamed up with Admech exploratory allies.Thoughts?
Most Rogue Traders don't really have armies. The closest they might have is arming their crew with shotguns.

This was wat our rpg group used.
-waves of orbital bombardments.
-multiple squadrons of heavy air support fliers.
- 4 insane op characters. With illegal weapons some mutations personal force shields and a flying transport.
-2 regiments footsloging storm troopers in drop ships
- stasis pods filled with crazed murder servitors. Most of them packed into drop ships / assault boats.

We tried xenos mercenRies but they where a pain in the ass and betrayed us at a crotical moment. After that we killef them and had a strickt no sentient xenos policy.
We still used large predators in stasis pods as a distraction tactic. But kroot. And ,NO orks those stupid fungi infect everything. The flamer cleanup after the ork mercs took months.

The answer is... what do you want a Rogue Trader army to look like?
That said, I think the Inquisition codex + Militarum Tempestus is a good start. Or the Renegades book, for a guy who likes a bigger footprint. Ignore any of the chaos stuff (so go unmarked bloody reaver or artillery master) and go crazy.

Nonsense. The Battle Company box is perfect for filling out your ranks of aspect warriors with a large contingent from the Screaming Baldies shrine.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I forgot our priest with a flamer fetish.
=> that sisters special charactee would do
Automatically Appended Next Post: And you would need
30 electro priest staff/tempestus body with a xenos ( dark elf crossair) cloak conversions. Those where the rogue trades personal guard / daemon extermination crew.
And a few units of sac imp g ard psykers as a psy choir for the astropath

Space Marines: Jacks of all trades yet masters of GRAV CANNONS!!!.
My Star Wars Imperial Codex Project: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/641831.page It has 7 HQs, 2 Troop types with Dedicated Transports, 5 Elite units, 5 Fast Attack units, 6 Heavy Support units, 2 Formations with unique units not in the rest of the codex, and 2 LOW choices.

A Rogue Trader army is perhaps one the most flexible possible
you could have Xenos Mercs or perhaps even those bound by simialr objectives and / or a near crusade with Sororitas and Astartes aiding a hard line explorer. An Adeptus Mechanicus aligned trader could have massive resources from that Empire at his disposal.
or as stated he might just have his ships crew equiped with lasguns and shotguns.
Lastly some Inquisitors pose as or have thier own pet Rogue Trader
or all of the above and more
