Basically ignore anyone who claims 2nd was remotely fair or even interesting much of the time.

I also heard Librarians could end games like that.

Hold out bait to entice the enemy. Feign disorder, and then crush him.

Yup. they could trigger morale tests and send the entire force outta there. Some form of Fear of the Dark or somwe such.

I wasn't around for that fun. thankfully. If I had played in 2nd Edition I might never have played afterwards. The hero power levels were so off the chart!

Fastest game I had was 5th edition (4th maybe? it all runs together...).
Was playing CSM against DE.
Basically did a ton of shooting and a couple of his special characters were hoofing it.
I decided to jump his Lord with plain old plague marines, nothing special he had that nice 2+ save of his and silly me I thought it would be an epic battle.
Stabs the guy with the plague knife against all odds, rolls the wound of 6 poisoning him and sucking all his wounds out in one shot.
Turns out that was the guy with the WWP so the rest of the army stays in limbo.
Mighty pissed-off DE player and me going "what? that is it??".
Took longer to setup than play.

I was foolish enough to put Logan Grimnar, Ulrik, a Rune Priest, an Iron Priest, and ten Wolf Guard all together in a Land Raider Crusader. First shot of the game my opponent uses his Chapter Master's orbital bombardment on the LR and it blows up. Many wounds are lost from the explosion then the rest of his army blows the survivors away. He even has enough firepower left to turn his Vindicators on my Dreadnoughts. I Conceed turn one. I must have lost about 800 pts from one shot!

Oh man... Reminds me of this:

My Tau Empire Turn against a Quad Land Raider list, wherein i field just three things to start the game!

Not a "fastest game ever" but sure will remind you of that.

And yet, the most abusive models were units, not heroes.

It couldn't affect an entire army. And many armies were fearless. Like Tyranids. So good luck with that.
