Hi so I will be playing in a Highlander tourney and my army list does fine against most of the armies except this one guys CSM. The tourney plays at 1500 pts using the maelstrom missions.

The list that I am up against consists of bare min troops
helldrake
typhon heavy siege tank w/ armored ceramite
fire raptop gunship
bloodthirster of insenate rage
nurgle winged daemon prince with permanent shrouded?

Wondering what SM list would do well against such a list. I dont care what flvaor of SM i play. Battle brothers count as allies of convenience for this game. You are limited to 2 detachments/formations etc. And highlander rules so max 1 of each unit.

That's all he's got?

I would take a unit of 3 stalkers who have skyfire, 9 twin-linked str 7 ap 4 shots with ignores cover. This will keep the nurgle prince and bloodthirster hidden early. Drop podding grav centurions will help vs. the Typhon. So will a knight. Typhon's hate Imperial Knights with str d close combat weapons. Take the one with 12 str 6 rending shots. Typhoons don't like str 6 rending either.

Actually the Knights and podding grav centurions should be able to take out the Typhon which is the main threat to your stalkers. Your stalkers are the main threat to the nurgle prince and Fire Raptor.

So add in 3 stalkers, an imperial knight, 3 grav centurions and a drop pod (for the centurions).

Okay, that nurgle prince is going to die easily to volume of fire. Trust me, I've fielded enough of those (even invisible or flying ones) to see how easily your enemy can roll 6s and you roll 1s. It only has to happen 4 times to murder the prince. Be'lakor is essentially a flying shrouded prince himself and he dies all the time to troops aiming at the sky. It's not a Wraithknight, just troop spam it.

The Heldrake is mostly gimped. It'll kill some of your armor 3 troops now and then but for now focus on the bigger threats. If you really want to, hit it with a skyfire quad gun because it's only AV12.

Bloodthirster is going to die in a fire too. It will ALWAYS strike last in initiative and has no ranged weapons to worry about. This means it will be on the ground because flying is pointless with this thing. It wants to charge. A single Grav Cannon w/Amp can most likely destroy this thing because of its 3+ armor save. Spam Plasma otherwise and watch it attempt to Jink to survive. Spamming it with troop fire works even better than the Daemon Prince will but ultimately one of your best options may be to meet it in close combat and swing first with lots of attacks. It can't kill that many troops per turn even with 5 attacks, just don't let it near your tanks.

The Fire Raptor Gunship is your priority one. The Typhon is beefy but it's a ground Lord of War and you can deal with that like any super-heavy LoW, spam it with melta. Dealing with the gunship will require a dedicate anti-air vessel... but you can figure out which one.

So that's basically my suggestions. Prince/Thirster are troop fodder and died to dakka, Heldrake isn't that scary and can get penetrated easily, and the Typhon is like dealing with an Imperial Knight. So focus on units that can handle the gunship or ignore it and suffer the wrath of its onslaught.

It's called a thick skin. The Jersey born have it innately.

Yea thats pretty much it for his army. The problem is I have to use the same list for all matches in the tourney so how will this list work against other lists? Theres a few mech guard armies, a dark eldar, space wolves, tyranids and necrons..Also were only playing at 1500 pts so would I have enough bodies to capture objectives since its maelstrom?

The Knight and podding grav centurions are standard take all comers unit additions. They should not hurt you in any matchup. The 3 stalkers on the other hand, that's a different story. They are only good against flyers and skimmers and need to snap fire against everything else, however they are your only source for cover ignoring anti air firepower. To make this better against a diverse field of lists you could replace the 3 stalkers with 2 storm talons. The talons will be effective against the bloodthirster and fire raptor, but you will have to volume of fire the nurgle prince and hope he rolls 1's.

Add in 3 podding grav centurions, an imperial knight with str d ccw and 12 str 6 rending shots and two stormtalons. This is about 900 pts and you'll have 600pts for what else you want.

Keep in mind a Typhon with ceramite armor ignores the extra d6 from melta weapons and is armor 14 all around. Only certain weapons are ever going to hurt it and melta weapons are not one of them.

The Typhon is also a 7" blast weapon str 10 ap 1 and ignores cover. It can win certain match ups all by itself.

The Typhon is certainly priority target #1

So i remade my list and it looks like this:

Imperial Knights Warden meltagun, twin icarus 415

Space Marine CAD

Librarian ML2 bike 110

Command Squad 4xgrav 5xSS apothecary bikes 255

5 man Bike squad combi grav 2x grav 145

5 Scout Squad Sniper rifles (debating bolters or snipers)

Storm Talon Skyhammer ML 115

2x Land Speeders Typhoon ML 140

2x Attack Bike MM 100

6 x Devastator 4 Lascannon 164 (debating Las pred instead)

How do you think this list will do against the chaos marines and against other tourney lists (mostly vehicle heavy lists and crons). Sadly I don't have any grav cents. I have pretty much anything else in the marines codex. The one thing I worry about is that it seems like I have very few bodies. C&C greatly appreciated.

your playing malestrom, you have access to free objective secure units, and space marines, just drive around him, he has 5 units or so, versus your 25 tanks or something like that, you will easily have way more points that he does. dont try to kill him, the game is about points, always think to your self obj first killing second

How is that list scary? Just Grav the Typhon to death, and Volume of Fire the Rage Thirster, nothing short of Be'Lakor will make that CSM list scary, if he brings Be'Lakor, that's an entirely different story as he can Invis + Shouding himself and make everything within (IIRC) 6" Gain Shrouded as well.

Just remember, CSM are go away when you do one of two things, fire enough bolters at them, or pray really hard to your dead god
