Howdy dakka! I've recently gotten into x wing and my new FLGS is hosting its first ever x wing 100pt tourney this coming weekend. I'm pretty new to x wing overall and am looking for some tips for my planned list. p.s. I love my defender and would really like to make it work for me.

smokin' aces 100pts

Soontir Fel: ptl, royal guard tie, targeting comp, shield upgrade

Carnor Jax: ptl, twin ion engine mk2

Delta Squadron Pilot: ion cannon, twin ion engine mk2

The defender and Jax are the main duo here, hopefully jamming up ships with Jax's ability and the defender's cannon while Soontir flanks. I am by no means an ace at this game yet so anything helps! What do you guys think?
My collection contains:
imperial aces x1
interceptor x1
tie advanced x1
tie punisher x1
x wing starter set x1
tie fighter x1

Can you borrow a couple copies of autothrusters from someone? The interceptors really need it.

Unfortunately none of my friends have the autothrusters yet :/ I do plan on getting a phantom though for the stealth devices if they are helpful.

Interceptors need auto thrusters. Other great options for them are either the stealth device or the Twin Ion Engine mark II.

I really wouldn't bother with the Target Computer on Fel, with PTL giving you two actions plus the stress Focus is more than enough, the shield upgrade is fine without access to Autothrusters or SD

Ditch the Mk2 engines off both the Interceptors, it's really not worth it they have enough green as is and you'll often have turns when you don't need to PTL, I'd be tempted to stick a shield upgrade on Jax too

Also for the points I think you have to ditch the Mk2 off the Delta, which is a nice upgrade, to be fit the shield on Jax

Wouldn't it be better to take a hull upgrade, over a shield upgrade on Jax, so the MKII engines can be left on the defender, which to be honest needs more variety in its green's

But what else are you going to do with those points? A TC isn't as good as autothrusters, but it's still a useful tool to have and was standard on Fel until autothrusters existed.

you'll often have turns when you don't need to PTL

No you won't. Interceptors will use PTL virtually every turn, especially if you have targeting computer instead of autothrusters. If you don't need focus + evade for defense you have focus + target lock for offense. If you don't need either then you probably need some maneuvering actions to set up for the next turn. Unless your opponent is just hopelessly bad at the game you're going to be using PTL at least 95% of the time.

Maybe but Shield may absorb a vital crit, not too sure extra greens on a ship that rarely stress' itself is worthwhile
