So while browsing BoLS I came across a comment by euansmith who made a reference to Google image searching for the term Seraphon (new name for Lizardmen for anybody living under a rock). Well I was amazed at the result!

Give it a try. The results are mildly disturbing but SFW as far as I can see.

What completely blows me away is that for a company as protective of their IP as GW to make such a hash of this. I mean I'd never heard of a Seraphon before the name change was announced, but then again, I'm not trying to file a copyright/trademark against it either. Wouldn't it make sense to do a google search on the term before actually using it? Though it would be hilarious if they only discovered this after all the materials were printed...

Anybody know if Seraphon is actually a listed Pokemon? I'm scared to google it any more.

I don't get it.
9 out of the 10 results are about lizardmen.
Are you referring to the Pokémon by the same name?
So two things have the sane name, shocking.
Bloodbound share a name with a metal band.
What's the point?

Wow. I have...no words. Nightmare fodder, sure. But no words.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

So was I supposed to find a bunch of furry/anthro Pokemon tickle fetish art? Because that's what I found.

But uh, yeah...it looks like someone named "Seraphon" commissioned/drew a bunch of weird art so that's why it's showing up in search results. Not sure what GW could have done about that, really, but I bet there would be a lot less of that if they were still called lizardmen.

I just don't get where the naming choice comes here from. They even had a character called Seraphon in Fantasy (Malekith's dragon). And no matter how I look to it, I can't get any kind of connection between the word "Seraphon" and Lizardmen.

Progress is like a herd of pigs: everybody is interested in the produced benefits, but nobody wants to deal with all the resulting gak.

GW customers deserve every bit of outrageous princing they get.

Corporations like this can make some really weird name choices seemingly with nobody to research them. Recently, WWE had a women's team named the "Submission Sorority," thus named supposedly because each member had a specialty submission maneuver. Didn't take long for them to realize that googling Submission Sorority brought up a lot of porn. They ended up changing the name, but how anybody thought that was a good idea to begin with is beyond me.

Considering that GW has gone after other companies for less? (See Spots the Space Marine.)

As for the images called up... at least Rule 34 did not pertain....

The reason I bought rules and became a real wargamer was because I wanted a properly thought out structure to govern the action instead of just making things up as I went along.

I wouldn't be overly worried over this, when enough new Lizzy Sera stuff gets posted about the place/GW have a word with Google. It'll be bumped to the top of the results.

ROFL! That is hilarious.

I'm sure this will change over time as the GW use of the word gains traction.

To be clear here (if it wasn't already), I think this is hilarious. Maybe using 'incompetent' in the title was a wrong choice of words.

One more point as well, the date on a lot/most of those images goes back to 2013. Whomever Seraphon was, they were quite prolific.

Does anybody know when GW started planning the re-brand?

GW is most definitely incompetent (Killing Warhammer a few months before the release of a AAA game in the Warhammer World is the best recent example) but this sort of thing doesn't really qualify.

I wonder if this will be the case. I know I certainly haven't started searching "Astra Militarum" when I'm trying to look up Imperial Guard. GW, like many other companies, seems to be delusional in the idea that it can just change the names of its products and people will suddenly roll with it. I guess maybe in ten years Astra Militarum will catch on over IG, and Seraphon will depend on the overall success of AOS, which has yet to be determined (honestly, I see Sigmarines more than I ever see the appropriate name for that faction).

The whole thing feels just absurdly forced. I don't blame GW for picking a name that has some weird furry stuff associated with it (that's name is such a weird little niche that I really doubt a lot of people are aware of), but I do think the whole "look, this is totally an original concept"! bs that they're hocking it isn't fooling anybody.

This happens way more often than people think, just recently WWE named one of their new female stables "Submission Sorority" (Now quickly renamed "Team PCB"). A quick Google search would tell you that the above is a porn series from a certain company.

I think they're trying to incorporate the name for one of the ranks of angels into their new (no longer) Lizardman race. But I must admit that cartoons of furries having their feet tickled is just plain weird.
