Hi! I am pretty new to the hobby and as such am looking for some pointers from the established vets.

I have a friendly game coming up this weekend with a new friend of mine.

I have the urge to play the Blitz Brigade and want to base my list around that. I have come up with two possible armies and was wondering which you guys think would work better for general use (I dont want to counter pick what he uses as thats just a dick move). We agreed to keep it simple and just play a game of kill points.

Army #1 The "Quality" option

1859 points - My friend actually told me that if I had trouble making a 1850 army I could let it go to 1860. He is a long time vet and is taking pitty on the newby ork player. I intend to MAKE HIM PAY FOR HIS KINDESS.

Detachment: CAD

None organizational - 1 mek - 15

HQ: 260
Warboss - DLS, Mega Armor, Cybork - 130
Grukk Face Rippa - 130

Troops: 194
Shoota boyz - 11 boyz (1 big shoota) Nob (Shoota) - 97
Shoota boyz - 11 boyz (1 big shoota) Nob (Shoota) - 97

Detachment: Ghazy's Bullyboyz - 625

5 MegaNobs - Boss Nob w/ Killsawz - 210
5 MegaNobs - Boss Nob w/ Killsawz - 210
5 MegaNobs - Boss Nob w/ Killsawz - 210

Detachment: Blitz Brigade 725

Battlewagon - Reinforced Ram, Killkannon - 155 (Transporting 5 MegaNobs - Boss Nob w/ Skorcha W/ Warboss)
Battlewagon - Reinforced Ram, Killkannon - 155 (Transporting 5 MegaNobs - Boss Nob w/ Skorcha W/ Grukk)
Battlewagon - Reinforced Ram, Killkannon - 155 (Transporting 5 MegaNobs - Boss Nob w/ Skorcha W/ Mek)
Battlewagon - Reinforced Ram, Killkannon - 155 (Shoota boyz - 11 boyz (1 big shoota) Nob (Shoota)
Battlewagon - Reinforced Ram, Killkannon - 155 (Shoota boyz - 11 boyz (1 big shoota) Nob (Shoota)

So yeah the idea is to just get right up in his face very quickly. The shoota boyz stay in their wagons and Dakka, while the Nobs are lead by their leader to take out high priority targets. The Wagons fire their blasts for AOE (which my Nobs are very protected from) and tank shock when/where it is needed.

Ideas:
Replace Grukk with a normal Mega boss with DSS and use the spare 25 points to get another mek to put with the warbossless Nobs.
Replace Grukk with normal mega boss with DSS and trade the shootas on the boyz for slugga w PKs on both Nobs.

______________

Army List #2 "Quantity!"
1852
Ork Horde Detachment

HQ 200

Warboss - DLS, Mega Armor, Cybrok - 130
Weirdboy - ML2 - 70

Troops - 782

Ork boyz - 17 boyz 1 nob PK BP
Ork boyz - 18 boyz 1 nob PK BP
Ork boyz - 19 boyz 1 nob PK BP
Ork boyz - 19 boyz 1 nob PK BP
Ork boyz - 19 boyz 1 nob PK BP

Fast Attack - 145
Dakkajet - Extra suppa shoota + fly boss - 145

Detachment: Blitz Brigade - 725

Battlewagon - Reinforced Ram, Zzap gun, Big Shoota (Or rokket) x4 - 145 (Transporting 17 boyz 1 nob PK W/ Warboss)
Battlewagon - Reinforced Ram, Zzap gun, Big Shoota (Or rokket) x4 - 145 (Transporting 18 boyz 1 nob PK W/ Weirdboy)
Battlewagon - Reinforced Ram, Zzap gun, Big Shoota (Or rokket) x4 - 145 (Transporting 19 boyz 1 nob PK )
Battlewagon - Reinforced Ram, Zzap gun, Big Shoota (Or rokket) x4 - 145 (Transporting 19 boyz 1 nob PK )
Battlewagon - Reinforced Ram, Zzap gun, Big Shoota (Or rokket) x4 - 145 (Transporting 19 boyz 1 nob PK )

So this armor gains a TON of more bodies and a dakkajet at the expense of losing mass AOE and the bullyboyz. I have far more wounds to go around, air capability and there is killing power in all the squads + superior battlewagon single target ability.

So what modifications to these lists would you suggest? Is one blatantly better (or less gakky in my case) than the other?

I ran something similar to the first list.

You don't want to be putting too many upgrades onto your Battlewagons, one weapon for vehicle damage results and a reinforced ram for dangerous terrarin is fine. They are transports, not killing machines.

In my link, you'll notice I have a Big Mek and a Deffkopta - this may seem odd, but the Big Mek, by attaching himself to the Deffkopta, can Scout up alongside the Battlewagons and continue to give them a 4++ invulnerable save (helps to keep them alive - keeps your Boyz alive - more boyz for da fight!)

The Kommandoes were their for obligatory Elites, I parked them on an Objective and had them sat there all game

You'll want some backfield support through Lootas or Mek Gunz. I chose Mek Gunz as they are cheaper and I find them better, but I still rate Lootas, it's a preference over which one you take first.

if you fire the killkannon iirc you cannot fire the lobba, as you are restricted to snap shots if you are firing ordnance [someone please correct me if I am wrong on that]

I would drop the killkannons off all the BWs, or the lobbas..

Ahh yes you are correct! I like the Killkannos so I will ditch the lobbas. Hmmm I will see what I can use my new found 50 points on. Another Mek and kopta?

I would love to use some backfield traktor kannons, but I do not have any of them in my collection yet.

Your wagons are way over upgraded. Shave down to ram + 1 or two rokkits.why? Because after you ram some idiot with your auto - hit S9 smash, you can only snap shot. So save that 20-30 points. Buy Meks to soak challenges, and/or get some painboys to give your guys FnP against 3/4 of the game.

The great thing about orks is that we can kit bash all sorts of things. So long as you make it the same size, almost nobody but the ultra picky will complain. Hit up your local dollar store, get some GI Joe guns, and kraft your own mek guns.

I am a huge fan of rokkits. I made a theory list for blitz brigade and I had tank busters , boyz , and meganobz. in the wagons. The wagonz just had 4 rokkits which is cheaper than the killcannon and doesnt demote the passenger status. (more boyz). I just had slugga boyz. I was toying around with having mechs around to fix wagons. They are cheap but i dont know if this is competitve. In theory tho you can have a mech in each wagon. 2 big meks and 3 meks (ability lets them not use up slots). Ive also got a warboss on a bike running with rokkitted deffkoptas. The main idea was to deliver the boyz and Mnobs to the other side , keep the tankbusters in the wagons. The empty BW run around popping vehc or MCs with rokkits? With all these rokkits , the list is pretty flexible.

These are just ideas for you.

Over upgraded for both lists or just the quantity one? I was honestly thinking they would be shooting their kannons a great deal and the ramming would be the minority. With 5 Battle wagons they take up at least 1/3rd of my points so I feel like they should be able to Dakka or else they are just ramming things and not adding much killing power. If they also lack offensive punch I imagine all the fire will just go on my boyz who are actually killing things.

Hmm I like the idea of a supper rockity waggon... I could shave off the killkannon on one wagon, add 4 rokkets and place some tankbustas in it for all da rite proppa dakka!

Blitz brigade is a ton of fun. Getting in right up in their face with 5 battlewagons full of guys 1st or 2nd turn is always good stuff. Here are some things i have noticed..
Put as many rokkits as you can in at least 1 of the wagons as the tankhunter will transfer to the vehicle. 19 str 8 plus re rolling failed AP hits can be pretty nasty against many things. Plus if its something super nasty jump out and crump that way.
Also, Burnas can be fun in large number in a wagon. You will close the gap really fast with the formation and getting mass stacked templates causes massive damage to the right units.
Also, 14 front armor laughs at a lot of weapons, so having a strong shooty hit squad rolling around can work really well. If your melee troops can tie up the big guns, your shooty squad can roll around and pwn.
Also a good thing to keep in mind is how you can use your formation to form a tight line, to cover the flanks of the wagons in the middle. You can use this to force your opponent to either shoot at the weaker flank armor of a less scary payload, or just try to punch threw the 14 front armor. Getting the free move can really help you to counter deploy to make sure that you line up the wagons correctly.
