Subject: [1100-1300] - Heresy Era Marines - What vehicles to add to the HHBC boxed set minis?

I have the minis from the HHBC boxed set, and here are the possible lists I can do -
First, I will use Pride Of The Legion, so I can make the 3 Veteran Tact squads and Termies all troop choices.
IDEA A
1 Praetor, Cataphractii Armour, Chainfist (teams up with Termies)
1 Centurion (Chaplain) (Teams up with a Tactical unit)
5 Terminators in Cataphractii Armour
1 Dread with Assault Cannon
3 10 man Tactical Marines, Power Weapon on Sergeant , heavy & special.
IDEA B
1 Praetor, Cataphractii Armour, Chainfist
1 Centurion (Chaplain)
5 Terminators in Cataphractii Armour
1 Dread with Assault Cannon
2 15 Tactical Marines, Power Weapon on Sergeant, heavy & special.
IDEA C
1 Praetor, Cataphractii Armour, Chainfist
1 Centurion (Chaplain)
5 Terminators in Cataphractii Armour
1 Dread with Assault Cannon
2 10 Tacticals, Power Weapon on Sergeant
2 5 Tactical Support (one with full specials & 1 with full heavies)
That is anywhere from 1100 points to 1300 points.
So, now I want to add some vehicles.
I like the Fire Raptor, Spartan (can 6 termies fit? also I know 20 tacticals fit, but can it be 2 units?), Proteus, and the Dreadclaw (can 6 termies fit? how many tacticals?). I may need rhinos for the troops, 1-3. Thoughts?

Understood. But I like the tiger stripe camo. Also, fluff wise, Tiger Claws got stuck in a warp storm and emerged 1400 years later ( 40k fluff). Who's to say another group of Claws didn't get thrown back in time! Regardless, it will be run as generic 30k marines & the beauty is, I can run them as ANY chapter!

H.B.M.C.- The end hath come! From now on armies will only consist of Astorath, Land Speeder Storms and Soul Grinders!
War Kitten- Vanden, you just taunted the Dank Lord Ezra. Prepare for seven years of fighting reality...
koooaei- Emperor: I envy your nipplehorns. <Magnus goes red. Permanently>
Neronoxx- If our Dreadnought doesn't have sick scuplted abs, we riot.
Frazzled- I don't generally call anyone by a term other than "sir" "maam" "youn g lady" "young man" or " HEY bag!"
Ruin- It's official, we've ran out of things to talk about on Dakka. Close the site. We're done.

I'll reply a bit more when I have some time later but for now
1. Only veteran squads can take the 1 heavy 1 special combo
2. You'll need to clarify what you can arm the Terminators with from the box but I'm 90% sure your limited to 1 power weapon, 1 heavy Flamer, 1 chain fist, 4-5 power fists and 4-5 sets of lightning claws.
I'm in a similar boat to you though as I'm planning on getting a box or two and then.... Next choice does depend on what RoW you choose.

But there would no Tiger Claws at the time of the Horus Heresy...
Indeed there would not. The Tiger Claws descended from the Astral Claws - themselves a chapter of unknown parentage; they are at best third founding so you wouldn't even have 'the lot who go on to become the tiger claws' like you can see the direct progenitors of the flesh tearers, black Templars, and silver skulls in the books.
However, it's not impossible that one or more legion sub-units might have adopted a tiger-stripe heraldry variant. I'm not sure which legion it'd be appropriate for, though. Beast-hide heraldry seems a bit wrong for the 'prissier' legions like the Emperor's Children and Blood Angels, or the more regimented/tech-focused ones like Iron Hands or Imperial Fists.
The Space Wolves have the right attitude but are too nailed to their space Viking aesthetic to have the imagination for it.
Maybe White Scars or Sons of Horus?
A Sons of Horus 1st Company sub-formation would work, since they use a base black armour, are given to surprise assaults and are aggressive as all hell.

Did Fulgrim Just Behead Ferrus?
|
As far as what vehicles to get:
A Spartan is a good choice for moving a unit safely across the board, often a big CC unit plus character.
The Sicaran is a good tank to use, able to fulfill multiple roles.
Deimos Vindicator laser destroyers can be deadly to other vehicles.
A Fire Raptor, like the Sicaran, can do a bit of everything, but if you want some real antitank punch, a Lightning with kraken missiles will take down just about anything with one volley.

I think I am going to plump for a Sicarian for my Ultramarines, they seem pretty usefull.
Plenty of other chapters out there use MK4 and have contemptors, its not just the 18 legions that are allowed to use them.

Considering I added a Primarch (Rogal Dorn) to the list. The chaplain can be easily enough conveted to Dorn if you have the parts

This all kinda depends on your expectations. True 30k games are meant to be played at about 3000 points. The aim is bodies and tanks.
However if you want to play a HH list at 2000 or below (or 2500 including primarchs or super heavy vehicles etc.) You will need more tools. Support squads, javelin landspeederz, heavy support squads are all awesome.
So to recap: >3000 points = bodies and tanks. <2500 points = variety of support squads to mimic 40k style lists. Automatically Appended Next Post:
My normal 2000 point list:
Praetor cataphracti, paragon blade, digital weapons
Pride of the Legion ROW
10X Veterans combi plasma, 2x heavy bolters,
Rhino with heavy bolter
10x Veterans combi plasma, 2x plasma gun
Rhino with heavy bolter
5x Tac support, 4x melta, combi Melta
Dread claw
3x rapier battery with quad heavy bolter
Dreadnought with 2x DCCW
10x heavy support, 10x missile launchers, Aug. Scanner
ALLY
Knight Paladin
(Add Horus for 2500)
BaC gives you most of this list

The salamanders had a camo variant colour scheme (achknowledged in one of the HH books IIRC). So you can still be fluffy and have tiger stripe camo if you want ..
