Hi Dakka !
So, I did my space marines a long time ago, and I did not use washe at this time.
But now I do, I cleary see it as a very important step, and I know my marines will look better with it.
Sadly, I varnished them.
Do you think I can washe them anyway ? Or do you think I will have to strip them ? I really don't want to totally paint them again.
Thanks !

Absolutely, it is preferred in a lot of instances. If you varnish before you wash (oil or acrylic), it lets you remove a lot of the wash if you need to.

If you use oil wash you have to varnish the model and let the varnish cure.

The glossier your varnish is the more it will smothen the surface. That mean you will have significantly less wash on the raised parts of a mini but more in the crevices.

Oil wash on a gloss varnished model is fantastic for line drawing.

I regularly put a satin or gloss coat on my models before washing them. I do this with both oil and acrylic washes, it help prevent pooling on flat surfaces and protects the basecoat should you want to clean up the wash with white spirits.

For 400 dollars I got Jerry Garcia in a pouch, man!
