I don't know why, but many people tell me (and I sometime read it on the lexicanum and w40k wiki) that in the fluff, CSM still have drop pods. If so, why is it that game-wise the only one they have access to is the Dreadclaw ? Anyone ever discussed this ?

It's just one of those dumb things that did/did not make its way into the rule books.
Several books have CSMs attacking via Pods and it makes perfect sense, they're tooling around in Legion vessels, which had drop pods originally.
Even renegade chapters post heresy would usually take their ships and thus pods with them.

I'm fine with them just having access to the FW drop pods, but I just wish they were less expensive. I don't think the Dreadclaw needs to be over 250 points.

CSM simply cannot have cool tools ingame because otherwise little Timmy would cry at seeing his super-heroic Ultrasmurfs die by the hands of eeeevil spiky traitors.
In a more serious tone, there are simply too many inconsistencies between how CSM have been portrayed in the fluff over the years and their portrayal in the actual game. The 3.5 codex meant CSM were not only cooler than loyalist marines, but also more powerful. After the results of the Eye of Terror campaign, it was decided CSM were not allowed to have nice things.

That's not a matter of little Tommy, that's a matter of keeping the armies distinctive. As a CSM player I don't think they should have access to regular drop pods.

Why wouldn't CSM have regular 'pods? Not all of them are VotLW, some of them turned just last week because they were sick of Terra's BS.

At over 250 points you must be thinking of the Kharybdis, not the Dreadclaw. The Dreadclaw is 10 Meltaguns, which is still a bit overpriced imo.
It is strange that they make a whole supplement for the Crimson Slaughter, recently turned traitors, and don't give them regular Drop Pods. The Crimson Slaughter is also too corrupted to be represented by the regular SM codex. I don't think CSM should have access to all standard SM gear, but drop pods are such an iconic thing for Space Marines of all variants.

I think that CSM should be given drop pods, or atleast a GW dreadclaw, i mean, even Nids have 'drop pods' now, CSM should have them, lets reserve the 'no dop pods' title for the SoB or IG, or even newcrons, just leave chaos alone!

Maybe it's assumed they've expended all of their normal drop pods over the ten thousand years since the heresy, or they've become so rare that the non sentient ones are almost never seen anymore.
Maybe GW just couldn't find a place to stick spikes on your standard pod. :p

The real reason is that CSM are not allowed to be even on par with C: SM.
I'd posit that the "real reason" is none of what you said.
Standard Drop Pods like we see in C: SM? They get recovered from the battlefield if there was a victory and if the Drop Pod is deemed salvageable. Thunderhawk Transporters are actually used for this purpose from what has been said before.
So, if the CSM forces had Drop Pods and they won a battle and they had the time to recover the expended Drop Pods? Then yeah, they should be able to have them.
But think about that specific set of circumstances. Even assuming that the Chaos Marines won every single battle they ever fought in and they were able to recover the pods from the field?
You'd still run out of pods by now if you don't have a manufacturing base in place for them. I haven't read any of the FW Horus Heresy stuff so I don't know whether they make a specific mention of the "current" Drop Pod having been recently introduced or whatever during the Heresy, but they did use to be specific in that the Dreadclaw was a common sight among the Loyalists and Traitors before being jettisoned by Loyalists after the Machine Spirits went a bit hinky.
Considering that fact? It's not unbelievable that perhaps the Dark Mechanicus can't build the current variant of Drop Pod, but they do have the STC data for the Dreadclaw and Kharibdys and thus build those.

Once deployed drop pods are immobile - as a result they must be recovered from the battlefield after the battle. In order for this to occur 2 things have to happen:
1. You must win the battle.
2. You must be sane enough to realize recovering a piece of essential equipment might be a prudent thing to do.
Chaos Space Marines are all so completely flying rodent gak crazy that without exception they will, upon setting foot on the field of battle, immediately soil themselves and run screaming into the teeth of the enemy heavy weapons. This results in them losing almost all of their battles. As a result they have no drop pods.

Chaos has the Dark Mechanicum, as well as anything looted from the loyalists, After 10,000 years, you'd think Chaos would have run out of Warlord Titans, being so rare and such a high-priority target for the IOM. Still have them.
If CSM don't have supply lines and recovery capability, they wouldn't have an army at all.

If you'd read any CSM fluff, you'd know that only some Chaos Marines are that methed-up. They get locked up in chains until battle starts.

There is no legitimate reason why chaos marines don't have drop pods, the dark mechanicum has proven quite good at maintaining old equipment and making new stuff as well. They are probably more advanced than the ad mech themselves.

Lazy fluff writing, too. GW's reason that CSM don't have everything the loyalists have is "They lost 'em, and can't make 'em". And the reason they have other stuff is "they never lost 'em, and they can make 'em" Ffs GW, just admit you don't like spiky dudes.

How many of them do they have compared to what they started out with?
It's not unbelievable that them committing Warlord Titans to the field is going to be incredibly rare and that those Warlords might be pulled out at the first sign of anything that could reliably damage or even destroy them.
If CSM don't have supply lines and recovery capability, they wouldn't have an army at all.
You'll note that I never said that they lack those things. You're forgetting to factor in the last bit:
Time to utilize those recovery capabilities.
Chaos has suppply lines, warp magic and they loot everything. How do they not have drop pods.
Saying "Chaos has X" is about as helpful as saying "The Imperium has Y". It's a HUGE faction, and not all constituent parts do the same thing.
I'd definitely agree that Alpha Legion and Night Lords would have Drop Pods, probably in large numbers. Same with the Red Corsairs.

That's a design problem. Not my issue.
Also, there are Chaos Warbands that don't use the warp at all.

Yes--for the Loyalists. The sorcerers we've seen mentioned, guys like Ahriman? They can bring strike forces through the Warp to the exact place they need to get to.

@Kalunwen: I meant they don't align themselves with the gods, and only use the warp for travel. Also, very few psykers have the kind of power required to just teleport a whole army into the planet. Ahriman could do it, but most cannot. And you'd still want pods for boarding actions, and whenever the warp is inaccessible - like against nids or certain Necron tech.
