Hi there!
I just started building my German force from a Wargames Factory set I got recently.
Out of the 30 figures i built them as:

2 squads of 10 men (NCO SMG, 1 panzerfaust, 1 LMG rest are rifles)
1 officer with 2 guards (smg, rifle)
Medic w/ extra guy
1 MMG
1 Sniper Team

I can get 500 points out of this list and I was wondering what should I get next?
I've been eyeing either a Puma or Panzer IV from Warlord Games and another box of infantry from wargames factory.
Any advice and help is appreciated

My 2p:

I don't know if the boxed set you have bought would do this but bear with me...

Another 10 squaddies, same as above.
An A/T squad, Panzerfausts, PanzerSchrecks or A/T rifle as appropriate.
An assault squad, smaller but armed with SMGs.
A few figures painted as NCOs so that you could field the figures in more, small units.
Another MMG

Then think about which vehicle would best suit your gaming style, NOT that which best fits the rules you are choosing to play!

Panzers III & IV covered most of the war. As did StuGs.
Every soldier has been carried in a truck, often captured.
Small vehicles outnumber big ones by loads.

Just an idea...

As an afterthought, try and tailor what you field to an actual formation, it sort of adds kudos and limits maxing out with Big Things!

And enjoy
H

Okay, first things first add an extra Panzerfaust to each of those sections. Panzerfaust are shaped charge weapons and you will probably have moved in order to get within range so 1 shot will rarely be enough.
Your officer and Medic are okay, though I would arm both the guards on the officer identically.
Whilst we are there, an extra SMG in your Infantry sections will not go amiss.

For your vehicle I would recommend either a Panzer IV/Stug (both are relatively cheap, have good AT firepower and are also have decent armour, though they will suffer if placed against heavy AT stuff. The Panther is a good choice for a tank, having thicker frontal armour and an even better gun than the Panzer IV though it does come at an increased price. Personally I would go for the Panver IV (cheaper) but the Panther is as good a choice.

Finally, you can have an armoured car as well as a tank. So, you can take your Panther and your Puma though I would suggest, given that you are taking a Panther, choosing a lighter car or not taking one at all.

Free from GW's tyranny and the hobby is looking better for it

I think you're mixing up the Poland-Kursk period with the "most of war". Whilst very few were activally scrapped and some fought on until the very end of the war production of all turreted Panzer III's was halted in 1943 and hardly any were on the front lines by Normandy which I expect is the period he [as most do] wants to model the most. Similarly the Wermacht had nearly ran out of transports by the same period and was easily the least mechanized force in the European front, most soldiers walking to the battlefield with Horse karts for their equipment. Few trucks could be cpatured because they were nearly always on the defensive.

Thanks for the replies!
I ordered another box of the Wargames Factory Germans and Panzer IV ausf H from warlord.
I will change out one of the guards of the officer to carry a SMG.
With the other german box set I would make an assault squad with SMG's as suggested. It would probably look like:
5 guys (NCO SMG, 4 SMG, AT grenades) x 2 squads(?) I'm thinking so that I could just switch out figures later on for higher point games.
Adding 1 more panzerfaust and SMG to the squads.
I'm also thinking of getting the German Heer Pioneer Flamethrower & Panzerschreck from Warlord.

If you modelled one or two chaps just carrying panzerfausts, they could pad out either the A/T troops or the assault unit, as required.

The German Army captured thousands of allied trucks at Dunkirk, French and British, and used them until they died.

Support troops could be Mortars, Motorcycles, MG42s, armoured cars artillery and air support (a VERY double edged sword!)

Personally I avoid any flamethrower units. The rules are so broken I won't use them.

What date are you basing the Kompanie on?
