So to make up the Hunter Contingent, you need at least one core and one auxiliary formation. Since the tau codec doesn't specify that you must take the Hunter cadre and a CAD is listed as a core formation in the rulebook, could you take the CAD and an OSC instead of a Hunter cadre and an OSC to make up the Hunter Contingent?

Edit: In addition, only the Choices listed for that detachment would qualify. A Necron Reclamation Legion would not qualify as a Core Choice for a Gladius Strike Force, nor would a Canoptek Harvest qualify for an Auxiliary Choice for the Gladius Strike Force.

The book does specify that. It's the only Core option.
