Hi guys,

I bought 10 Sternguard veterans.
I hear you need special formation in order to use Sternguard Veterans. I really like Pedro Kantor special rule about veterans, but now I look in to the SM codex and in the Battle Demi instructions is said this:

1 Captain Sicarius, Chaplain Cassius, Kor’sarro Khan, Vulkan He’stan,
Shadow Captain Shrike or Chaplain Grimaldus may be taken in place of
the Captain or Chaplain.

No Pedro Kantor included in this list, am I restricted to chose Pedro for battle demi. Also I see no sternguard veterans in the units that I can choose. I see the 1st strike company requires Sternguards, but It does not have HQ.

And another question, Crimson Fists are using Imperial Fists chapter tactics to rerol failed hits at 1, is that correct?

Apologies if asking stupid questions, but the more I read the less I understand.

You're correct that the demi company doesn't have Pedro or Sternguards. As a chapter master and veteran squads they are not part of a battlecompany - that's why you can't include them in a demi company

You're also correct that the 1st company task force doesn't include pedro.

You could take a Gladius with strike force command (pedro), 1st co task force (sternguard) and a demi company but that's a pretty good sized army.

If you're looking for a smaller game than your best bet will be to take a combined arms detachment - pedro + sternguard + troops (tactical squads or scouts)

You're not going to get a Battle Demi-Company, Pedro, then Sternguard, and then a retinue for Pedro and the Chaplain within 1500 points and actually have it be, well, good.

A CAD might be the better way to go about it.

Pedro, a pair of scout squads with land speeder storms, and then as many Sternguard as your heart desires. (Or, at least, up to 30).

If you put the Sternguard in pods, consider dropping the storms and putting the scouts in fast attack drop pods to round up your drop pod assault. Pick whatever points you have left to tastes.

If you are then dropping Pedro with a Sternguard squad, you are going to have to probably give them all similar combi weapons, since with only nine dudes they cannot combat squad. Plasmas could work, or flamers and a heavy flamer (though, dragon fire bolts are probably better, so if you are going that route, could save some points and just use the Boltguns.).

If you can find a way to squeeze a Skyhammer in, all the better.

As for a gladius... Well, a bare minimum battle company is 440 points, Pedro is 185 from the chapter command selection, and a 1st company detachment with Sternguard is 330 before weapons. (110 each)

So that's 955 points, leaving you with 545 to fill out pods, guns, models and whatever else.

While you can fit it all into a gladus, it’s going to be tight at 1,500. Should work very well as an 1,850-2k list though.

And sternguard re-rolling ones with bolter drill is a brutal, beautiful thing.
