Basically I need a fair bit of guidance because I absolutely love Necrons and I want to start playing them outside of old
DoW.
This list looks much better and more focussed. Here a couple of improvement suggestions:
- I would drop the Warscythe and Phylactery on the Lord in the Court and, instead, give those upgrades to the Overlord in the Legion. The Overlord will make much better use of them. Keep the Lord a reanimation buffer with Staff of Light + Orb of Eternity. If you put both Overlords, Orikan, the Lord and the Lychguard in the same unit, you have a pretty nasty death-star.
- I don't think C'tan are particularly good either. Their biggest drawback is the random power selection. That said, they're super fun to play with.
- You don't have any mobility. Warriors in Ghost Arks and Immortals in Night Scythes are both great units.
- I find Deathmarks don't do much in small groups. You need 7-8 of them to have any impact. I would increase their squad size or drop them entirely.
- The Annihilation Nexus is a pretty mediocre formation. Doomsday Arks are terrible and Annihilation Barges are just okay.
- I'm not sure about the Deathbringer Flight. If you fight lots of armour and Knights, then it's a good take, otherwise I think it's over-costed for what it does. S10 Large Blast sounds awesome, but with the prevalence of cover saves in 7th, it's just not as good as it used to be. Furthermore, Necron flyers have to zoom, so you're only going to get 3-4 turns of shooting out of them per game.
- You don't have any anti-air and at 3,000 points you can bet there'll be some flyers kicking around. Yes, you can engage flyers with the Doom Scythes, but not with their Death Rays because Death Rays are blast weapons. At that point you're spending 160 points to do the same amount of damage as a Night Scythe at 130.
All in all, you`re off to a good start, but lacking an overall strategy I think. 3,000 points gives you so much flexibility to make a very cool specialized army. You can go fast with Night Scythes, Doom Scythes and Tomb Blades, assault with multiple Canoptek Harvests and Judicator Battalions, board control with Monoliths, Ghost Arks and Deathmarks, etc. I suggest starting off at a lower points cap and building from there. See what you like and what you don't like before spending upwards of $1,000 on kits.
I hope this helps!
