So lately I've been more on the building and painting then the playing side, I've only played a handful of games with v7 so far. I'm having a blast though working on a major theme army, based around my own space marine chapter. The Chapter has a unique relationship with the Sister of the Dying Heart and the Inquisition. Lately I've been wanting to buy and build an Imperial Knight to start a knight house that is allied strongly with my chapter. I don't have the codex for them though, nor do I know much about them. So figured I'd come here to get some info and help figuring out which one to buy. So please, suggest away! Although I like them and I'm not opposed to getting one of the FW knights, their price is enough to make it not happen right away.

That depends a little. Do you want the Knight to do a mix of dakka and close combat or an extreme of one or the other?

Extreme dakka I would choose the Crusader. Plenty of firepower options for that.

Close combat go for the Warden. It's also cheaper points wise.

Knight Errants and Paladins provide a decent mix of both and are priced point wise between the above two examples.

These are also all non FW models so easier on the wallet.

for any of the non-FW knights they can be easily magnitised for all weapon combos. This way you can pant all the weapons and not have a problem when what to put on it.

It's easy to assume that people arguing an interpretation you disagree with are just looking for an advantage for themselves... But it's quite often not the case.

I find the most success from deploying 4 IK Wardens at 1500pts.

The Str6 Ap3 heavy12 rending is very versatile. Has high rof to snap shot into the air. Str6 hurts many things including av11, 12 and rending can glance av13 and av14. The rending is what gives it potential but dont rely on it. For av13&14 you need to charge in with the reaper chainsword.

To effectively play 4 Wardens, they must shoot annd kill atleast 50pts of models and charge and get stuck in combat with 50pts or more. Win or kill all on the enemy combat phase and then be able to shoot and charge on your turn to repeat. Each warden has to essentially kill at least 100 pts or more per turn.

None of them. Because they are bad.

I'd agree that the Warden is your best tactical option. The 12 shot autofire isn't bad at killing hordes, but it's also your best bet for hammering single big models like another superheavy or a gargantuan.

The ability to snap-fire at invisible or airborne targets is also priceless and the integral heavy flamer is worth its weight in gold in the right circumstances.

I would go Warden. That machine cannon is way too cool to pass up, IMO. I wish the Crusader could equip two of them.

Just magnetize it, I did and the knights are so much better that way, Otherwise Warden and Paladin are my favorites.

The citadel kit is really easy to magnetize to be able to make all the options. I'd do that myself so you can switch between the options.

yep that vortex large blast kills all. Only comparable to the Crusader. Crusader is beaten i think.

However, most players only use just 1 knight. Using anymore than one is not optimal and very point ineffective. There are no tournament winning armies that use knights exclusively. Most people build an army then supplement their army with 1 of the special knights. Even the double melee knight has a purpose in certain armies.

The double melee knight can still take carapace weapons to stay in the shooting game. I, personally, wouldn't take one, even though the fist is pretty awesome.

Thinking I'll get the Knight Warden kit and try my at magnatizing it. I've had very limited success doing it though, so should be a fun project.

Was at my flgs and was looking at them so the owner gave the same suggestion, get the warden and magnetize.

Warden and magnetise, were sounding like a broken record here haha

I'm still in the process of painting my most recent one which is fully magnetized (apart from the masks). If you want I can take some pics of what I've done to help you out?

Well, there is only the one kit from GW, which has all the options.

James, that would be awesome, sure! How do you line up the magnitze on each piece to make sure they match up right? That's my big problem that I keep messing up.

Some stores still have the old kit floating around, my local hobby town has the old kit at the new kits price.

I... actually don't know. Help?

I'm a bit late, but what's your SM playstyle? Try to balance that. An assault heavy army could need a Crusader, a shooty army the one with dual CC weapons, and so on

God, I wish FW did that.

Officio Assassinorum - 4 Assassins
CSM - 500pts? Maybe? Its from the Officio Assassinorum box so I'm pretty sure its not enough to run in a CAD

Not strictly true. Josh Roberts recently won the Allies of Convenience GT in the UK with a Baronial Court backed by Warp Spiders. Not exclusively Knights, but certainly more than taking one as an ally.

I prefer shopping at my FLGS over ordering from GW online, but this is the one reason I don't like buying from them. If GW updates a kit the FLGS doesn't (or should they have to) remove the older kits and people buy them not realizing they aren't the new kit. Add to it that they won't order the newer kits (unless someone places an order through them, but honestly, if you're going to order anyway why not from GW) because they still have some of the older ones they need to sell off.

I'm working more on the shooty side of the spectrum, come in fast and hit hard.

Well I would consider buying the older one if they had not marked it up to the newer kits cost, with less options it is a bad deal.

I'll take some over the weekend and post them. For the battlecannon/inferno, I used the suspension bars as a guide, hollowed them out and put a magnet in. Put a dot of paint on and press in into place, then you know where to place the other. For the arms I sawed the internal clip off the arm piece, glued a washer to the top and another on shoulder pieces, and then glued four magnets in place on the shoulder washer. Then you can attach any weapon, at any angle to any arm. I'll get the pics done soon, will make more sense then.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Right, here is a rough guide to magnetising all the parts, except the mask. Obviously I was never intending to create a how to guide, but hopefully it will help. I have circled the magnets so that it is clear where they are. All the magnets are 2mm, and the boring was done with a hobby drill to make a pilot hole, and then a citadel mould line scraper was used to widen it, which creates the perfect sized hole for the magnets. The inside on the shield brace, and the magazine for the battle cannon have stacks of magnets to close the gap. The joints that link the 'elbows' have been sawn off, and 12mm washers have been glued to both upper arm pieces, and all the weapon arms. On the upper arm washers, four magnets are glued into place to give a very strong connection. On the battlecannon/infernocannon piece, the internal barrel with the pipeline needs gluing in, but with the pipeline removed so that the battle cannon magazine's pipe can fit into place. To make the ammo link exchangeable, before gluing the casing together, hold the outside piece of the boxing with the inferno ammo in place, and carefully drill a hole through the casing, and carry on until you feel it bite the ammo case. You now have two holes that will perfectly match up. Then replace the casing with the cannon ammo piece, and, using the previous hole as a guide, bite into it with the drill to create another perfectly aligned hole. To attach the different gun barrels, put dabs of paint on the battle cannon shock absorbers, and put it in place on the casing. Where the paint is left is where you need to place magnets, but make sure they are flush to the case, Drill out the shock absorbers and put magnets inside, then the battle cannon is done. Clip out the corners of the inferno cannon ridging, and put magnets into the gap, these will line up perfectly too. For the rocket launcher, clip small piece of sprue out and use them as a backing to glue the magnet to. You will have to line it up pretty perfectly, so you will need to do this before gluing the top and bottom together. Hopefully the shields and shoulder guns will be self explanatory. Any questions feel free to ask, and hope it helps. Next knight I might do step by step photos, unless this is enough. Cheers.

my advice would be to snag the Knight RTenegade box, and build a knight warden and a knight Paladin or errant depending on your preferances

As for a Knight, i would say either the Atrapos or the one with the giant flamer
