So as i see it if you take a Detachment then decided to add one or two more units that do not fit then everything loses command bonuses and it becomes unbound. And if i take an unbound force with Formations the units in that formation receive the command benefits.
So say for instance I take a List that is Unbound with a Formation, Then i take another faction as a CAD detachment do these added "allies" lose their command benefits too? Or is it only my primary detachment that suffers from the downside of being unbound. i just haven't got my head around it i guess.

Either all of your army is unbound or it isn't, allies included.

Formations do not have Command Benefits, yet, so are not affected by the Unbound status of the army.

I meant that the formations still get their bonuses like special rules. My bad. The main point is all command benefits are lost even if you have 3 different detachment if even one unit is in your army and not part of a detachment therefore unbound correct?

To the original OP - Unbound can be a couple formations and whatever else you want and the formations use all their special rules - this could be from every codex at once if you wanted to.
Battleforged everything has to be in a detachment or a formation, nothing outside of it, and you can still use as many different codexes as you want.

Here's a question, where are Unbound lists not allowed?
|
<Dynasty> ~10500pts
War Coven of the Coruscating Gaze ~3000pts
Thrice-Damned Plague Corps ~3250pts
Admech (TBN) ~3500pts +30k Bots and Ulator

Most tournaments require Battleforged.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Unbound is just frowned on cause its easy to spam things with no balance.
Like an army of just heldrakes or whatever.
I find its ok if you just wanted to run a formation and want to also take a couple units that the formations didnt allow - I think thats the non abusive way of using unbound.

It is largely down to fear of change. Inherently unbound is weaker than battleforged due to the benefits you can get from being battleforged (and evidenced by nearly all unbound tournaments being won by a battleforged army). So it is false to say balance is a driver to ban unbound as you don't reduce the power level of the top builds by banning unbound you just reduce the tools the weakest codexes have to compete (the ones without access to the super detachments).
Maybe it is because you believe people are more likely to field competitive lists if unbound is allowed as it is easier to create a competitive list in that method? Well as the internet is a thing so anyone who wants to create a competitive list will find it EASIER to do it with battleforged as so many tournaments bizarrely have that restriction thus finding a tournament winning battleforged list is incredibly easy.
So no there is no reasoned or sensible reason to ban unbound in any format. Just fear driving idiots to make unreasoned claims and the less informed crowd that follow them...
