Blog or not, it's legitimate. I've bought some stuff from there in the past and everything has worked out just fine.

This is a bonkers explanation. GW is the only company dumb enough to pay that much for a website. You can get a website from any of a number of hosts for dirt cheap and most have an option to add on a templated shop for like $20 or somesuch. There are tons of businesses that are just as small that have actual storefronts. Ratgard's stuff is expensive to the point of being a turn off and that little voice in the back of my head saying that the transaction might not be that secure is the last straw ever time I almost convince myself to order from them. It adds so much legitimacy to a store (big or small) to have some kind of store front and some kind of secure cart system that doesn't look like it was cobbled together with wordpress (which is known for not being a secure blog system to begin with).

It's a paypal transaction. You still log in and pay through paypal, the "store" owner never has access to your credit card information. And you're protected by paypal's guarantees, which heavily favor the buyer if there's a dispute. Worrying about it being secure is just paranoia.

As someone who got hit by the Target breach (notified by bank and had to switch all my stuff) and a DOD security breach in the same year will do that to a person.
Either way, it still feels like a half assed website for someone asking so much for some resin kits that require another company's overpriced vehicles to begin with.

No it is not some people don't have the money the expertise or the skill to make or support a site, so i don't see this as an issue. If you have issues with a non professional looking site you can always ask your local store to order some stuff for you.

I'm with mlaw on this one. That site looks dodgy as hell, and really puts me off ordering (never mind the paypal protection).

As he pointed out, you can get professional looking websites/cart systems for ridiculously cheap these days - half the podcasts I listen too have squarespace as a sponsor, whose prices start at $8 a month, drag and drop design or premade templates.

Why is it a blog?

Because he's probably not a web guy and can't/doesn't hire one? If a website being pretty convinces you that a transaction is safe, well, I'll remind you that Target's website is pretty and look how that worked out.
