I was wondering if it would be possible to put a dreadnought in an allied stormraven to bring it on from reserves.
for example if I took murderfang could I put him in a grey knight stormraven to bring him on from reserves (and thus charge him into an enemy unit using the assault ramp when they arrive)
I couldn't find anything in the codex that prevents this but I figured it best to check what others say before trying this.

Allies that are classes as Battle Brothers may embark upon each other's transports. That the Dreadnought is technically carried externally doesn't change the fact it counts as "embarked".
Check out the allies table on page 126 of the Rulebook to see if your two Factions are Battle Brothers, and for other allies-related rules.
Although please note, the Assault Vehicle rule (p157) still does not allow you to assault the turn you arrive from Reserves.

Correct, Quanar.
While most Dreadnoughts and Storm Ravens would be Battle Brothers to one another, there is at least one Chapter Tactic which turns Codex Marines to a lesser Allied level to other Imperium armies. But I've heard they have a big bite.

ok so I could use it to bring on murderfang, I was discussing this with the manager of my local GW today and he seemed to think I couldn't bring on my murderfang (space wolves) from reserves using an allied storm raven (grey knights) as a transport but I thought it best to check as I know he has made a few mistakes with rules before. thanks for the info on assaulting from vehicles, waiting to assault until turn 3 is no problem I'd rather that than murderfang get shredded from shooting while footslogging across the table.
I know everyone says put him in a drop pod but if there is no terrain nearby and he's in enemy lines he'll be a bigger target than before.

Iirc the only situation where a transport cannot carry battle brother allies from reserves is if it was taken as a dedicated transport

Not quite. Unit type can prevent it just as easily. Also, ICs can join those units with Dedicated Transports and so this is one way Allies can Embark on a Dedicated Transports.

Not to re-open old wounds, but...
Is a murderfang a "dreadnought of any type"?
It is not an upgrade to a dreadnought like the wolf ven dread, it is not listed in fluff as being a dreadnought(merely "resembling a dreadnought"), nor ever called a dreadnought/derivation thereof.
Sure the model comes from a dreadnought box set, but so do several other unrelated dual-kits. Also it looks like a dread, but even the fluff states that while at least implying it may be something else.
Of course HIWPI is to allow it no problem: but the stormraven transport capacity is a current example of fluff=rules sometimes(and in this case it still doesn't exactly; more "go with what feels right")

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
