I'm using the list in Imperial Armour 13. Funnily enough this is the only list I've ever made using up all 6 troops slots.
Combined Arms Detachment
HQ:
Renegade Command Squad
-Arch Demagogue with Primaris-rogue witch, mastery level 2, covenant of Tzeentch, refractor field
-10 additional disciples, banner of hate, command net vox, plasma gun, carapace armour
295 points
Troops:
Renegade Infantry Platoon
Infantry Squad
-20 renegades, 2 autocannons, 2 plasma guns, vox caster, chaos sigil
-Chaos champion with covenant of Tzeentch
145 points
Infantry Squad
-10 renegades, 2 flamers
-Chimera with heavy flamers
95 points
Infantry Squad
-10 renegades, 2 flamers
-Chimera with heavy flamers
95 points
Renegade Infantry Veterans
-10 veterans, 2 meltaguns, carapace armor
125 points
Renegade Infantry Veterans
-10 veterans, 2 meltaguns, carapace armor
125 points
Chaos Spawn
-3 chaos spawn
55 points
Chaos Spawn
-3 chaos spawn
55 points
Chaos Spawn
-3 chaos spawn
55 points
Fast attack:
Valkyrie
-Multiple rocket pods
125 points
Valkyrie
-Multiple rocket pods
125 points
Heavy support:
Renegade Support Squad
-6 weapons teams, 6 lascannons, covenant of Tzeentch
165
Total: 1460
Basic strategy:
The chaos spawn will lead the charge while the command squad and big infantry unit advance behind them. The smaller infantry units will take either flank in their chimeras and hopefully tank shock the enemy into a tighter position. The veterans will come in with the valkyries to mop up and take objectives. The support squad offers tank busting and anti-air. This leaves me with 40 points, which I'm not sure what to do with. Also not sure what discipline to give the arch-demagogue. Thoughts?

I would make the command squad as barebones as possible, so drop the extra melta-gun-cost infantry and banner of hate. Keep the command vox if you want. Hide them in the Chimera and support the other infantry squads.
Are you placing the Arch Demagogue with the 20 man infantry unit? If so drop the champions covenant of tzeentch to save 20 points as the Arch Demagogue with bestow his/her covenant to the unit.
Consider dropping plasma guns and swapping for meltas, cheaper and more reliable but you'll have to get stuck in! You will have saved enough points for a nice fortification to hide you lascannon support squad in to shoot flyers and whatever else with.
Your valkyries will be jinking alot so you wont be able to fire those multiple rocket pods after the turn they come in probably, so consider just giving your veterans the deepstrike upgrade instead of the carapace and dropping the valkyries altogether.
Do not take two heavy flamers on Chimeras, if you move then you have to snap shot the other weapon. Only take one heavy flamer on the chimera chassis, hull mounted is my preference as I like the strength 6 of the Multilaser versus the AP4 of the Heavy Bolter.

I was under the impression that the arch-demagogue had to be deployed with the command squad since he's bought as part of that unit, but if that's not the case then it certainly saves me some points on the extra meat-shields in the command squad.
I thought the range of the plasma guns would be helpful since they'll be foot slogging, but you're probably right about the meltas being better, especially considering I haven't given them krak grenades.
I thought about it and you're right, I don't really need the valkyries. The veterans can take scouts too, so would they be better deepstriking or outflanking in a chimera?

Read the command squad entry in the imperial armour book, listed as independent character
I would not bring veterans at all, just add two more infantry squads to your platoon and equip as you please, give them chimeras. Comes out a lot cheaper than ten man veteran squads.

I know the arch-demagogue is an IC, I just assumed that he had to be deployed with with command squad but could leave after that. Plus the IC rule gives a better "look out sir" save IIRC.
I need to take at least one vet squad to meet the troops requirements, since the whole platoon only takes up one slot and the spawn don't count towards compulsory slots. Of course the other option would be to take another platoon (or some mutants?) for more bodies.

Platoon would be 285 points for a thirty men with six flamers and three chimeras, if you could squeeze that in?
If not then I would run a mutant rabble over platoon infantry without transports.
