If you haven't seen the news of late, there are a bunch of things for AoS coming from the Black Library as downbloads.
Part 6 of the Call of Archaon series appeared today, along with part 4 of the Klaxus Rift.
However, if fiction is not your thing, the latest White Dwarf mentioned they were doing an 'advent' calendar of AoS (and 40k), where every day something new would appear, starting tomorrow. It looks like the first thing to appear will be a Chaos warband generator, complete with mini-campaign that will allow you to build forces and fight with them, watching them grow as they gain more victories.
Should be some good stuff appearing between now and Christmas!

That sounds like Path of Glory.
Pleeeeease let that be path of glory.

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that. |

With the lore and fiction, I must wait for reviews. Just started The First Heretic last week - wow. Well written and great read.

How good is the Call of Archaon series? I'm thinking I should probably read it, because I'm interested to see what writers make of the new setting.
Also, I get that the stormcast eternals are the big heroes in the setting, but I'd really like to see some fiction about the "free people" and how humans cope in the new world.

Call of Archaon is probably my favorite from the new fiction (and I've read all of it). They follow a series of Chaos champions from each free God (so not Slaanesh), setting the tone for each one before they get called by Archaon. All of them are interesting (the Khorne guy predictably the least so) and they provide very different glimpses of the world.

The Call of Archaon series is quite good, I would say - I would also say the best book thus far has been War Storm, with the possible addition of Ghal Maraz (that follows it in the storyline). If you want to see Age of Sigmar at its best,I would start there.
Read the latest Call of Archaon last night though (In the Lands of the Blind), and Varanspire is not a nice place, and Archaon is not a nice boss
Though a Khorne guy who hates Khorne and is his champion because he wants to meet the god and bury an axe in his face is fairly interesting (Khorne doesn't care, so long as the blood flows...).

Matt, did you read Hammers of Sigmar yet? I've read the first story (more than half the book) and it's my favorite of the novels so far.

Hey Matt, what's it like? Can you give a quick overview of the rules? And is it easily changeable to use for non chaos factions? How would it play competetively?

I have - and I thought it... okay. I like the setting of the first part (bridge of birds, big moon, etc), and the second showed the jeopardy even Eternals can face when fighting Chaos. Plus, you get to see the Celestant-Prime in action.
I don't really have anything against the book as such, I was just enjoying the continuing storyline of War Storm and Ghal Maraz, and Hammers was a break from that.
Quite prepared to revise my opinion if the next book continues directly from Hammers (though I suspect we will be reading about the Allpoints War)!

Competitively, nt even slightly.
Tables for name, followers, boons, advancement. Old path to glory aim of getting your guy elevated to Daemon hood.
Of interest - uh oh - is the fact all the follower tables seem to match box contents. 10 Chaos hounds, 3 minotaurs, 12 Chaos Warriors...
Only balancing factor as such is depending on what your initial champion is affects initial warband size - so a guy on foot gets more followers than a guy on a manticore.
Modding for other races could be done I guess, but the 'winner' involves Daemon prince and winning a fight...
Fun diversion.

What the other chap said.
I have already started thinking about adding a Skaven component though, possibly using the original clans in place of Chaos powers...

I always thought of Path to Glory as something where your full warband was 20 or so guys, but 12 chaos warriors or 10 wolves is now a thing?
It used to be a game where you got 5 friends and split a box of warriors, a box of demons and a box of marauders between you :/

In the photos etc. it looks like it's a mildly rpg-style method of collecting a Chaos army. Casualties don't carry over, etc.

Yeah... So this is an "example warband".
That counts as an army in my book.

Bought the Path to Glory for Age of Sigmar, but can't imagine it works much different for 40k. Here's a quick rundown:
You essentially pick a "level" of warlord you want to be your champion. Based on the power level of your champion. you get more or less rolls on the follower charts. For example, a Chaos lord on foot gets six rolls, while a Chaos lord on Manticore gets four.
You take take the corresponding number of rolls on the following charts:
- Retinue Units, usually minimum sized from thier warscroll. (Models listed are the max you can take in the unit, no additional models allowed, but you can take any equipment allowed by the warscroll. )
- Heroes: Just what it says, various single hero models.
- Monsters: Again, self explanatory.
- Bray Herd: Various Beastmen units.
- War Herd: Beastmen monsterous infantry and monsters.
After each battle there are various Eye of the Gods charts you can roll on for both heroes and units.
After each battle you gain 1 favor point if you lose and d3 if you win. The goal of the campaign is to get 10 favor points, and then roll lucky on the Eye of the Gods chart to become a Demon Prince. Once you have enough favor and win a battle after you ascend to demonhood, you win the campaign.
Seems like a nifty, quick little campaign system.

How did you go about viewing the download for this? I just got it this morning and even using the GW recommended apps, I can only view it like this....
On my phone
On my computer
Does anyone have a solution to this? I've had this problem with GW Digital content in the past and it's bumming me out. Thanks!
