Umm, just noticed this...

http://warhammerworld.games-workshop.com/warhammer-age-of-sigmar-the-trials-of-the-oighear-campaign-day/

"Deep in Chamon, the Realm of Metal, lies the Silverglades. A frozen land of perpetual snowstorms, it is a barren waste, uninhabitable to all but the most hardy of folk. There reside the Oighear, a tribe of Mages who have learned to manipulate the primal forces of the Winds of Izotz, the powers of Ice.

"Every thousand years, the Great Storm arrives and covers the land in snow. It is this time when the Oighear decide upon their new tribal leader. Seeking aid from mercenary armies, they march to war upon one another in an effort to expel their rivals from Chamon and take control. Now is that time; the Great Storm approaches and the Oighear march to war…"

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

Mmm, 30 models and 17 days. Tight, but might be doable. Event allows unpainted but I couldn't live with myself if I did that.

Have a very small force (maybe 10 models) from a warbands thing we did a while ago but different race to my new stuff (not that that matters in AoS), currently painting some monsters, but only allowed one of them. Could rake around in my bag of very old models, painted but probably not that well, and not sure what state they are in apart from some Kroxigor I pulled out the other week.

Tempting... Assuming I can wangle a Saturday pass from the other 'alf.

You looking at going? I might be attending too

30 models is the maximum, no need to bust yourself getting that many completed...

The Tzarina begs to differ.

Also, how inovative that they still use the ages-old Old World models...

I am giving a thought to going, though the stars don't look great. Apart from actually getting together a force, Saturday is probably the worst day for me, far too many other things I have to cover for on Saturdays family wise nowadays, Sunday would have been a much better bet for me.

I like the Ice Queen but what's a horse going to eat in the land of perpetual ice and snow? It should be a reindeer, or a moose. Or perhaps a polar bear.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

I wish I could go... I'm LOVING all the little vignettes we're getting in all the AoS books and novels, small glimpses of far away realms or long-lost kingdoms... Perfect example in the latest novel (Hammers of Sigmar) with the gigantic realmgate guardians, or in the Black Rift of Klaxus with the mandrake-creating Mage society... It just makes my imagination and fascination fire on all cylinders. The fluff is rapidly becoming a favorite of mine.

I'm loving the fluff as it expands, too. It doesn't appear as much anymore that Chaos had conquered literally every square inch of the realms. It seems like there are plenty of pockets of civilizations that have avoided Chaos for one reason or another.

Fluff has never bothered me much, I play game for the game, who needs fluff to play. By the time you've watched or played Romans vs Normans or Gauls vs Partians etc enough time then getting worked up by fluff in a make believe fantasy game would be odd. Hell I couldn't stand the whole gunpowder empire of the old world. Or the chaos hordes are coming on their annual great invasion again led by this years winner of Celebrity Chaos Champion. But some people loved it.

vignette, small glimpses, imagination, fascination.

He was clear about what he likes, it was clear he knew what he liked. Each to their own, else we'd be bloody boring if we all liked the same thing.

Eh. It's evocative and sounds cool. There are better examples in the books. Overall I think GW is doing a great job setting the stage for future in-depth fluff, they obviously can't just keep doing these little glimpses forever. They are what I like most about the fluff though, the Khorne hordes are boring as hell and while I like the Stormcast, I want to see more nuance from them. It's the lands they traverse and the vignettes I mentioned that really tickles my fancy.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Silverglades never got mentioned again, really. This looks like a one-off thing for a Warhammer World event, rather than laying groundwork for Wizard Kislev. I mean, they even mention the wizard tribe is made of shapeshifters or something so you can use whatever wizard you want.

Honestly, I wouldn't have linked it to Kislev at all if it wasn't for the title of the thread.

I don't think mymearan specifically meant depth with this faction, but the setting as a whole. If it becomes the norm that some vast civilization exists out in the mortal realms outside the clutches of chaos, it means there is lots of scope for both the setting to expand constantly and for players to make up their own stories without feeling like they are going against the setting. It is exciting!

I'm not going sadly. I'm in the final steps of buying my first house at the moment so pretty much everything is on hold.

It's going to be one of my new year's resolutions to attend some events in 2016 though!

Matt, I expect a full write up if you are going! And did you convert an ice mage?

I'll see what I can do with a write-up!

As for the Ice Mage, I am going to go with a Tzeentch Chaos Sorcerer because, well, he is kinda bluey and wizardy, so he fits (way too much on the painting table to get a proper Ice Mage in!). Going to be going up with a nice relaxed force of the Bleak Horde - the Ice Mage, 18 Chaos Warriors, 9 Chaos Knights and just a Lord on a Manticore as the only real nod to hitting power.
