Subject: Tau - Now that the Retaliation Cadre Box is out, is it worth it?

I was just wondering if the Retaliation Cadre Box is worth the money. It really looks like it would be if you play Tau. 1 x Commander, 3 x Crisis Suits, 1 x Broadside, 1 x Riptide for $215. I'm seriously considering getting this box, but I'm on the fence as to whether I should spend my money on it or something else (maybe some models for my other armies or something else completely).
Right now, I have
1 x Ethereal
3 x Stealth Suits
1 x 10 model Breacher Team (w/ Devilfish Dedicated Transport)
1 x 10 model Strike Team
1 x 9 model Pathfinder Team
1 x Hammerhead
1 x Stormsurge
Thanks
SG

The individual components are $260 all told.
The box has a built-in discount of $45; almost the price of another Broadside.

Yeah, I know the discount is great. I did do that math (great point to bring up, though). I guess my question is, are those particular units worthwhile?
Thanks

Hard to go wrong with Riptides, Broadsides, Crisis Suits, or Commander suits. They are quite often used and gives you everything you need for the Retaliation Cadre which is a very strong formation.

Short answer-yes.
Long answer-
Commander is the tau "common" HQ, he is flexible, and can support many shenanigans, also he is mandatory for the formation, and the formation as a whole has some good rules.
Crisis suits and the old workhorses of the tau empire. you can set them up to anything from long range "autocannon spam", to suicide drop melta, to midpoint plasma dancing, to efficient horde removal. not the most durable for the cost, but its practically like a marine squad where every single member packs a special weapons, while being more mobile. you can't have too many crisis suits.
Broadsides have two main guns, the HRR who is unfortunatly useless, and the HYMP who is absurdly efficent and creates a "zone of feth everything" in a 36" radius. even more with the formation's relentless buff. not the most mobile unit around, but when you need to hold ground, little can out-do a well placed HYMP broadside team.
Then there is the riptide. a big chunk of "screw you" to whoever is on the other side of the table. they are HARD to kill, they pack a serious punch, they are mobile, have range and are flexible. they practically have no weaknesses except the fact the HBC is very demanding on the NOVA and hurts the riptide alot, but the IA does not have that issue, thus single handedly making it into a killing machine that will strike terror into anything who does not carry an invul save. and even then, its no scrub.
Honestly, its one of these times that there is literally nothing bad in the box. the only "problem" with this, is that if you want to double up the formation, you don't need another commander-and commanders beyond the first/second quickly become irrelevant, as the formation with maxed teams packs 3 riptides, 3 broadsides and 27(!!!) crisis suits. so you can easily afford to get more and more without more commanders.
Yep, the "problem" is that the value slightly drops after the first kit, because you don't need more HQs. I think this applies to nearly every box that contains an HQ that ever came out though.

Absolutely worth it. It's an auto-buy for Battlesuit fans, really.

Basically yes.
The units in question are each considered staples of the Tau army for good reason, and your collection conspicuously lacks them.
Better still: they're all really good kits.

Well, not for me even though I'm a battlesuit fan.
Mostly because I already have a commander, and Ralai (a FW commander of sorts), and no less than 11 crisis suits (and I don't want to mix old style and new style crisis suits, if I'll ever expand, I'll try to get more old style)
So its a bit too redundant for me to get this, given that I have plenty enough of some of these (I'd love myself a few broadsides, but the firebase support offers no save, and its too much stuff anyway.)
BTW-the rapid insertion cadre? Its similar, but run like the plague. that one is horrible.

Kind of, sort of?
These boxes tend to have a limited lifespan. They tend to have five to six months worth of stock of these.
