Any one had any good luck with this spell? We had a store tourney yesterday and I played my GK ( which I don't have much experience with). Was facing some nastys so I tryed to cast it two out of the three games I played and all I could kill was myself.

I wish every one else with D weapons had to have a chance to suffer a wound : ). Seems like it could be fun but I could not get it to cooperate.

I had great luck at a tournament this weekend when an Ork player tried to cast it at my IK, it spent 6 turns rampaging around his army for me.

I did have a vortex in my first game stick around a few turns and then fly straight into my opponents warlord on turn 7(and other games made several runs for their warlords, apparently it's a warlord seeker).

While it's not really reliable I noticed in a tournament it seemed to be a great way to make my opponents, stay away from objectives they wanted to take or risk losing units to it, overall I think it's a pretty worthwhile power in the right situation, definitely good at keeping IK and other super-heavies/gargantuans away from an area.

It's only really good as a hail mary. A couple hot rolls and it can murder nasty things, but it is in no way reliable.

Vortex O' Doom is a fun spell. Most of the time I've used it it's done nothing except for scare the crap out of my opponent (as nobody wants to go near it). That's it's chief value imo is forcing your opponent to shy away from that template. Occasionally it kills something, but it's mostly to scare the opposition

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."

Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

I ran right up next to it during several games at a tournament this weekend, it would either hit me and I lose something but I would get the objective I needed or it wouldn't and I still get the objective. Both were better options than not getting the VP.

Try using a Librarius Conclave
You pass Psychic tests on a 2+ so you're unlikely to perils and kill yourself

Best use I've had? First game Sunday, facing a double cad ork list with two of the sh vehicles with d strength weapons setup with a kff mark in between.

Roll first to the fray on Libby, and vortex, and seize init.

Scatter, mishap, reroll. Hit dead on.

Perils on vortex but land it on one of the two plus the kff mek. Blow up tank, fail to hurt mek. Scattered blast from destroyed sh takes three hull points off the other wagon.

Start of his movement the vortex scatters onto the damaged wagon, killing it.

I run pure GK most of time, with Draigo and a Liber Libby fishing for Vortex. Fun tactic is to Gate out of CC then drop Vortex on the unit you just left. Damn that's fun!

I make bad decisions and think they are good.

We had a 2000-point LoW centric tourney at my LGS this summer. My army turned out to be six GK L3 libbies and then 30-something Inquisitorial acolyte squads, each with one psyker in them.

I think my record was eight simultaneous vortexes on the field.

I've used it to block a bottleneck from charging wolf cavalry. It gave my opponent pause before deciding to go around. It only killed one of them but it did it's job in slowing the cavalry from reaching an objective.

"Terrain of Doom" is just one of many wonderful uses for this amazing power!

Killer Klaivex

The dark behind the eyes.

I've seen it:
- Murder Dante and most of his squad on turn 1
- Obliterate 2 IH vehicles, and then sweep through another when it moved.
- Kill a Warlord CCB

Just played a game today against my friend's Seer Council. Vortex killed a Kataphron Destroyer and put two wounds on their Tech-Priest Dominus, then two turns later swung back to kill another Destroyer. That's a couple hundred points of value.
