Excuse my ignorance, but I don't know which book to buy. I know it's an Imperial Armor book but I don't know which it is exactly. Also, is the siege of vraks the most recent? Or is it War Machines of the Lost and Damned? There was something about the Vraks book having different options. Thanks in advance!

Heretics amd Renegades is iirc IA 13 2nd edition.

Both Vraks and IA13 have versions of a renegades and heretics list, with Vraks being meant to simulate the forces at Vraks, and IA13 being more a more generic list. I would advise investing in IA13, its got tons of options, and from what I've heard is less Khorne/nurgle centric

As others have said, two sources. IA 13 is a much larger collection of rules; tt has a bunch of super heavies /which CSM and R&H can use as well as flyers for CSM and a heretics list which lets you dedicate your units to any god you want.

That said, Vraks is probably the stronger if you're looking to make badass list. Ordnance Tyrant in purge detachment is mind-bogglingly strong.

So its not so cut and dry then? What would I be missing out on by choosing one over the other?

Vraks has fewer options but can be stronger. Ia13 gives some awesome themes.

Before you get anything, you need to understand the difference between the two.

Read this, and get better understanding.
