Hey there!

I have some force weapons to paint but only 1 shade of blue + guilliman blue glaze.
Alternativly I could use des (3 shades) but I dont know how to wet blend and I dont want to try it with my New models.

Is there an easier way to paint force weapons?

That is the only blue you have? You're not in for a lot of fun then.

You could thin it, paint 3/4 of a blade edge, wait for it to dry, paint 1/2 of the edge, wait for it to dry, then paint the last 1/4

You could also try to mix it with white / black to get 3 or 4 colours going.

There was a GW tutorial on force weapons the other day, came out pretty good and was quite easy

Do you have white? and an airbrush? I am going to assume no on the airbrush, since you only have one blue.

You dont need to wet blend if you dont need the technique.

watch this video for help. instead of using different blues, just mix white with blue to lighten it up.

Hope this all helps.

It kind of depends on what sort of effect you're after.

If you're looking for the traditional blue-fade blade, then you might have some difficulties.

These days, I tend to do my power weapons like this:

Metal blade, ultramarine blue around the power nodule thingy, then a drybrush of ice blue with some white mixed in. If you only have the one shade of blue, then you could do something similar just by mixing white into your blue for the drybrush.

Seeing as you have blue, I use gulliman blue wash over skull white for my warp talons(don't know if that's considered as a power weapon) just have to aplie it smoothly or else it looks blotchy.well I actually primed it with a white.

Hey, I do the same thing!
It looks very good compared to how easy it is.

for sure, I'm no master at painting, and itsVERY hard to bugger it up.plus it really stands out.and its fast.and that is what was what the heading asked EASY.

If you also have white, then you have as many shades of blue as you want.

I used to do power weapon blades black, then layered highlights to red at the end of the blade, then additional edge highlights of brighter red and orange along the very edges. The same sort of thing would work with blue, red, yellow/orange or purple.

I tried using white to mix up lighter shades of blue, but it didnt go too well:

another problem is, that I want to paint all my swords alike (grey knights, so everybody has one!).
Therefore I try to fidn a technique that allows the most consistent results.

I still have a few spare bits to practice, I will try some of your suggestions now

PS: no airbrush unfortunately :/

It looks like you've got the right idea there, just the execution isn't quite where you want it to be. It'll only get better with practice. Try adding the white in much smaller increments for a better gradiant

Do you have your heart set on that effect?

I use layering/edge highlighting to do the following:

that looks awesome!

could you give me a small step by step?

Right now I am trying a red sword with the different red shades on a black background to see what I could come up with.

The picture above was my attempt to copy that GW advent video - failed horribly ^^

Cheers. Yeah no worries.

The basic technique is standard layering.
Step 1 - set your basecoat. In my case this is Vallejo Game Colour Night Blue (+ a little bit of Reaper Master series Anti-shine. but that's 'cause I like a matte finish).

Step 2 - cover basecoat about 65 - 70%. For me this is with a 50/50 mix of VGC Night Blue and Imperial Blue

Step 3 - go over previous layer leaving a little bit of it showing at the edge nearest the centre of the blade. I use 100% VGC Imperial blue at this point.

Step 4 onwards - same as before, keep covering the previous layer, leaving a little bit of it showing. For each successive layer add a little bit of white/whatever to your mix. For me I add VGC Glacier Blue (almost white) to the Imperial Blue in very small increments to create the additional layers.

Final step - when satisfied with the hue of the outermost layer, do a line highlight. For me this is 100% Glacier Blue.

Hope that helps.

We're all too stupid to paint a good anything, right up until the time we can paint one well.

Don't be down on yourself mate, paint it as best you can and then move on and paint another one. After 10 swords you'll be way better than after 1.

None of that, it's all about practice. I've been painting for a little over four years, it took me a year before I even attempted to paint a power weapon, Do you have any spare bits of sprue? Prime them and start practising on those instead of your models. The rectangular shaped bits are excellent for anything that requires edge work.

Thank you very much and that is a sterling metaphor.

if I want to go about it easy I just paint the power weapon either Silver or Gold and then wash it with an appropriate ink (cool colors use silver as the base, warm colors use gold as the base).

Yay for lazy methods.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

if you scroll down there's a GK I just did, sure it's purple but for blue all you need is blue paint, white paint, washes or glaze.
