MC/flyer unit fills a lot of needs in the army (particularly with dealing with flyers). Personally I wouldn't bother with the landing pad if your taking the Space Wolves Detachment that allows you to auto bring in a unit in reserves each turn. From there you could probably make Thunder Wolves a part of your core as they go well with nearly all army lists and provide some much needed heavy hitting in close combat. Not sure how your bringing your Grey Hunters in but I hope they aren't going on foot (they really should be in Rhinos or Pods).
I don't have much experience with the Typhoons so I can't argue for or against them.
Well right now my Grey Hunters are on foot, I lost all my Pods and Rhinos/Razorback. I did tend to gunline them and use other stuff to go deep, so to speak.
I mostly used the Typhoons in my backfield as a 'Fire Brigade/Sniper' type unit or as flankers. They do ok if you use them against the right targets.
