Some of us are living under a rock, some of us just show up with a list and fight.

What is 30k? How can I show up to the game store ready to play some 30k?

I am the kinda ork that takes his own washing machine apart, puts new bearings in it, then puts it back together, and it still works.

I was just thinking of that. I may well write one today and post - maybe it can be a sticky for people new to 30k...

ArbitorIan, if you write a good one PM me and we'll sticky it up here! I could really use a good resource like that, too

Just google the reddit 30k page. Its fairly accurate and detailed.

In a nutshell its marines vs marines. There is no right way to do it and armies are fairly balanced against each other. Most veteran 30k players tend to be more on the fluff side compared to 40k gamers and we build armies we like and rule of cool more so than hard core competitive and hopefully it will stay that way. You wont see any LoW below 2k points and they can never be more than 25% of the army point allowance. Its heavily infantry based, Vehicles are expensive, squads are large. Also most vehicles worth having have ceramite armor so melta isn't king any more. Theres more utility units, in the dreadnought family and many of them can pull double duty as anti-aircraft platforms and you can have entire squadrons of them. Deep striking is not very common unless you take a limiting Rite of War. Rite of War specialize your army and come with minor benefits and usually major negatives which help with theme. Drop pods are only available to the Orbital Assault RoW and a couple legion specific RoWs. Terminators cannot normally deep strike unless they belong to the couple legions that allow it at extra point costs. Orbital assault also allows it and is the only way most legions get access to it.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

No, it's not. it's more than than Legion vs. Legion. Mechanicum, Solar Auxilla and Imperial Militia / Cult lists have their own, and very distinct, way of fighting.

True but I have never seen anything but marine vs marine. the other armies are oddballs that are rarely seen in my experience. I dont see BaC changing this trend.
