Hey dakka, another quick question in regards to BAngels - I have a 10 man squad of death company which will accompany my Captain. Would it be better to take a Sanguinary priest or a Chaplin with them? The priest helps only the captain with feel no pain, but is cheaper, while the Chaplin helps the entire unit on the charge, with re-rolls, but is more expensive and his zealot rule is kinda redundant (though it helps the Captain). I like both models, so I'd like to include one in the army, especially that new chaplain with a jump pack! What a beast!

Anyway, let me know your opinions
Cheers all!

How is Zealot redundant? Pretty sure Death Company don't have Hatred.

Either way, the Priest helps a lot less, so Chaplain.

Reading the Zealot special rule (at least in the BAngel codex anyway), doesn't say it gives hatred. But yes, I think I agree that he seems a lot more useful

Chaplains are way better with Death Company. The Hatred rule they confer gives you a ton of rerolls, which synergizes well with the insane number of attacks DC get on the charge. All the Priest gives is +1 WS, as his FNP adds nothing to DC because they already have it.

If you want to use a priest, put him with either Sanguinary Guard (with a jump pack) or Assault Terminators. They are also a great, cheap HQ choice, just not with DC.

Very true, and fair points. I'm gunna go with the Chaplin

Agreed on all points. Also doesn't hurt there's a sweet new model for the BA jump pack chaplain. I'm hoping my 40k hobby buddy comes through getting me one for X-mas.

It is also fluffier to go with a Chaplain as they take care of the Death Company.

So if you don't then the blood angels will come down and slap some sense into you.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

Chaplain. If you can, go with Lemartes for a fluffy standpoint. Not sure how good he is in 7th, as I play 5th edition BA.

INSANE army lists still available!!!! Now being written in 8th edition format! I have Index Imperium 1, Index Imperium 2, Index Xenos 2, Codex Orks Codex Tyranids, Codex Blood Angels and Codex Space Marines!
PM me for an INSANE (100K+ points) if you desire.

I prefer divination libbies w/DC. Chaplains are not good, and priests are wasted since DC already have FNP.

I don't know 5th but Lemartes is an elite slot now.

I'd do this or chaplin. Depends if you need HQ slots.
I don't like adding characters to squads less than 10.
I also think DC are solid enough alone. But YMMV as lists are different.

Priest and Captain in a 10 man assault squad with a PF sergeant would be my choice. Then MSU DC squads.

Thanks everyone for all the quick replies! I'm gunna go chaplain, which I'm actually pleased for cos that new jump pack chaplain figure is too awesome not to use haha

I've found that even Astorath (who's a chaplain) in a pack of DC can turn them into a real blender.

Then again, if you're just interested in a buffing badass, a standard chaplin might be the better choice.

Librarians are a good standby but aren't consistent.

Guys, you really don't want either of these models. DC don't need the rerolls. It's better to just buy more DC to soak wounds than pay for a useless chaplain. Only the librarian can provide worthwhile utility to the DC, imo.

Slightly true. Two hidden power fists on the charge will land 4 hits on the charge, and combined with weight of attacks you'll usually kill most targets.

The Chaplain ensures more of those hidden Power Weapons make it through though.

More and more I find dc are best on their own, however. The chaplain is a waste for sure.

I'll forever agree with your assessment of Astrorath at the very least.

The Chaplain also suffers from not having the durability of Death Company. Not having the FNP can really show. Yes, he has a 4++, but you are paying for it. You can get three or four more Death Company marines for his points. I have a Chaplain for the sake of having a Chaplain, but I will probably never play him unless a formation comes out for BA (HA!) that actually makes him decent.

I have a unit of 10 DC, 4 with bolters (to let some shoot before they charge for extra hits. Good idea or not?), 2 with fists, 2 with power weapons (most Likely swords) and 2 with just chainsword and bolt pistols. Then a chaplain ontop of that. I could always hide the chaplain in the middle of them all. They also be jumping up the board with a 10 man assault squad, so they may help soak up some dmg if I chuck them in front perhaps

You don't need a chaplain. Quit using them. Give another unit a sanguinary priest instead to double your FNP. You probably don't need the power swords, either. If anything, get power mauls.
