Subject: Any suggestions on what army to play if I'm looking to avoid large models?

I was thinking for the next army I build up I'd like to see if I can avoid large models... So maybe I'll just have pure infantry.
I'm looking at maybe 1850-2000 points.
I'm thinking Grey Knights right now but am wondering if anyone else had any thoughts/suggestions?
I was thinking Grey Knights because of the relatively low model count compared to other armies I'll try to do infantry only.

One of the Grey Knights best units is the dread knight who is fairly large.

Aye. They can run all small models like Termies or Purifiers, but their best unit by far is the Dreadknight, who is as tall as a Riptide.

Unfortunately, the current rules heavily favor monstrous creatures and punish mass infantry, due to the prevalence of powerful AoE weapons and ignore cover.
You might be able to pull off a foot-slogging necron army though, as their Decurion detachment has several buffs that increase infantry resilience by a considerable margin, making an infantry based force possible.
Also, necron vehicles and monstrous creatures are not too large; the spyder is quite small for a MC, and their barges are fairly small for a vehicle.

When he said "pure infantry" I kinda shook my head, but Necrons could actually make that work. Is there anything Gauss can't do?

Necrons, Space Marines (of any sort really), or Eldar (but you'll still want a Wraithknight).
Grey Knights are low model count, for sure, but without at least a couple of Dreadknights they're not overly strong.

Hmm maybe I'll pass on the idea of infantry only... or a least at the point value I'm thinking.
Part of why I was looking at an infantry only army was for ease of transport. Smaller models for a smaller bag/container. Mostly because I was thinking it was something I'd bring with me on flights or something. But maybe I should bite the bullet and expect to take a larger size bag if I want a decent 1850-2000 point force.

Battle Sisters and Tzeentch Chaos are the other two options if you really want lots of infantry - both have 6++, which is only a marginal increase in survivability against the AoE IgCov, but it's something at least.

All infantry the best option is probably Necrons as stated.
Though Orks with green tide is pretty much zero large models (just a gak ton of little ones!!)
There's also Tzeentch daemons if you don't mind a couple big guys like Fateweaver,
Or Space Wolfs if Thunderwolf super powerful cavalry appeals.
Eldar can also run bike heavy lists well and wraithknights are amazing but not needed, an all bike/aspect list with maybe a flyer would be very solid.
Dark angels can do all bikes very well too

If you just want small models, as in infantry and small tanks vanilla Marines are very strong as MSU. Drop pods would probably be your largest model, bit at least they're cheap and transport well. But, it's a large number of small models. Then there are grav bike Marines, which are small unit count and not too large models. I suppose you could call scatter laser bikes 'small' models too...
If you don't mind a couple of dreadknights, GK is a great way to go. Also, you can ally in an assassin like Culexis to eat up some points and get good utility.

Skitarii are a possibility as well. Especially if you're open to going pure formations, as you can run the "Sicarian Kill-Clade"(3 units of Sicarian Ruststalkers and 1 unit of Sicarian Infiltrators).
It's actually a pretty scary formation if someone doesn't have effective overwatch and you hide everything for the first turn. Past turn one? Sicarian Ruststalkers can charge even if they made a Run move that turn.
So you make a Run move, add +3 inches for Dunestrider, Charge with another +3 inches and just shred whatever gets in the way.

skitarii + cult mech are probably your best bet, all models are below 70 bucks a box, no models are larger then a a console controller at the base in diameter, height wise no models exceed 6.5 inches
the biggest models really are the onagers and you need to throw us a bone here somewhere and the onager is about as tame as they get

Like already mentioned. I'd go bikes. White scars or ravenwing. The models are still fairly small and the army as a whole isn't too big. Both armies are still effective though.

I'd recommend a mounted army. SM Bike armies are fairly strong and SM bikers are probably the easiest mounted models to transport (it's essentially a small cheese log).

Scions with Relentless and FNP on their basic infantry(admittedly they're T3, so basically they die in droves to anything above S5) but they can seriously weather fire.
Best part? They're putting out a boatload of shots with some tricksy bits. Automatically Appended Next Post: djphranq wrote:By way of Traitor marines, what are my options? I believe KDK has a formation or something that is bike/cav right?
Are you wanting to make a legal army using the unique KDK detachment, a standard detachment or formation based list D?
Will affect my answer.
