Ward's fluff is terrible but I will compliment him on making decent rules. I liked the 5th edition space marines, blood angels, necrons and Grey Knights books rules wise. They had pretty good internal balance, where competitive, and had flavor.

I would take a chaos book with that over the current book.

Nope. He's the reason none of the books are now attributed to a single author - his books quickly became unpopular with non-tfg's.
