ORK PLAYERS! How have you found the white dwarf Looted Wagons to go in decent sized games? I am planning on a solid wagon back bone for my mek led force. Do they work well? What are their best builds?

When I used them back with the 4th ed dex they had a better longer range gun. I always used them as fire support and artillery. Sit them towards the back and just blow the enemy to the warp.

Now with the Kilkannons instead of the boomguns, they don't do that quite so well

Looted wagons are the back bone of my ork armies.
Don't look at them as "tanks" look at them as av 11/11/10 trukks for only 7 points more. Or if you are a marine player look at them as open topped rhino's who did not wish they had those. The big downside is that they eat heavy support slots. So you have to go unbound or be creative in CAD spamming.

How I field them.
Bare bones or with some minor upgrades such as a ram or a weapon. If I feel fancy I might even give them a boarding plank.
( I used to love gun wagons even more but their rules are now kinda dubious since they are IA8).

The alternative build for looted wagons is am artillery piece.
I don't like that at all AV11 + medium ranged weapons is just asking for it to explode.

They are a useful tool for transporting models that are too important for a trukk but not important enough for a battlewagon. It's fairly cheap, doesn't fall too far behind my trukk and biker rush, and doesn't die to bolters.

Well I used one in a small tourney on Monday and it went pretty well for the first 2 games, in the third game however I rolled a 1 for don't press that and my BattleWagon's Kannon scattered onto it's new position shooting it in the rear and blowing it up.

Thanks guys, I have two that I have made up to run with kill kannons. One will take my big mek giving it a 5++ and the other my warboss and his nobs. I play against marine players and if they focus all their fire on my tanks my boys can run at them un hindered haha

I find this to be the easiest use. When I have an extra heavy slot I'll put my warboss's unit or MANz in a looted wagon for some extra protection. You can also go wild modeling looted wagons so they tend to look appropriate for carrying the warboss. I've tried using mine as "cheap" kill kannon platform but haven't had a ton of success. I only have one looted wagon, in multiples you should be able to get some shots off and get some hits on important enemy units.

I find trucks doing better than looted wagons as transports cause they're faster, cheaper and more reliable. Oh, and can roll an odd 6 against pens making them somewhat more durable.Besides, trukks don't eat up Heavy support.

All you get is av11 which is not outstanding. But than you risk rolling a 1 and get screwed. If not for 'don't press dat', looted wagons would have been on par with trukks but it spoils everything. Orks are an army that requires a lot of forward planning to compete with new armies nowadays. And 'roll d6 every turn and screw up on a 1' is not what you generally want.

As a gun platform, other things in our codex do it better. Not even telling about forgeworld. Forgeworld is generally a codex+1 in terms of big toyz and it's not an exception in this case either.

So, all in all, i think that looted wagons are worse than other options. Usable but no need for them. They're fine in a pedantic enviroment where everyone requires visivig and you've only got a bunch of broken rhino recasts.

Yeah, the loss of boomguns on Looted Wagons pretty makes them a write off as a unit for Ork lists, unless you're really pushing for an Ork looted tank brigade. As transports they're unreliable and not that much durable than trukks as well as not being able to be taken as dedicated transports. Then as gun platforms they're too slow and vulnerable for the short ranged killkannon they can take since AV11 is ridiculously easy to glance to death this edition. You're better off taking supa-kannons on Big Trakks if you want backline blast templates or just take Big Gunz instead.

There are some other interesting weapon choices to consider if you want to field them: Rokkits, Skorchas, and an inexpensive Deffrolla. Buggies can do the first two better since they are fast (though the LW can take 3 Skorchas ), but the Deffrolla... that is tempting.

I don't see how it getting a deff rolla is exciting TBH, deff rollas have been nerfed hard and practically speaking reinforced rams are always taken over deff rollas since they've changed them to only inflicting D3 S10 AP4 hits IF your opponent nominates a unit to a Death or Glory during their tank shock/ram.

It sounds like the consensus is, take Looted Wagons if you want, but they're not very competitive.
