I've been playing X Wing for a short time now, and I've started to choose my armys, and I've decided that I want to make a Rebel list for my next game, with Jake Farrell in it. I'm just not sure what fighters support him well, or whether he is even a good choice, any help on this would be much appreciated!!

Jake's the best A Wing pilot.

He needs Veteran Instincts, then I'd normally run him with Proton Rockets, Push The Limit, A Wing Test Pilot and Autothrusters, approach from an angle that kept incoming fire to a minimum, get out of arc and stay there!

I thought about something like that, but my main problem is that I don't have most of those cards, after all I am new to the game. I would, but I can't.

I think you'll find most players are fine with proxies outside of a competition environment.

Yeah, that's true, and I've neglected that the Imperials are my go to for competition, so you are right! I'd give Jake a Chardaan Refit over torpedoes, but that's just me. Would Wedge be a good ace to take with Jake? And then maybe some filler X Wings or B Wings?

Poe and Jake would be a nice start

Poe Dameron,
R5-P9, Veteran Instincts, Autothrusters

Jake Farrell
A-Wing Test Pilot, Proton Rockets, Push the Limit, Autothrusters, Veteran Instincts

Prockets on Jake are fairly easy to get online and a 5 dice attack with a TL is always going to hurt,

This comes to 70pts you can round out the list with another cheap ace or bulk it out with Z95's or more A-Wings

Trust me, I've been running Jake regularly without Prockets, his damage output can be pretty terrible without them, it's the only issue I have with him, but there's no space in the list I'm testing for some missiles.

Wedge is always fine, essentially you're looking at either using Jake as an ace amongst plebs, in which case look at some of the tankier stuff in your generics like Blue Squadrons + HLC or TLT Ys, or go ful elite and pair him with any of the decent pilots that are either naturally PS8+ or can be boosted to that with VI.

As you've obviously got Rebel Aces to have Jake, I've always been partial to Keyan Farlander with advanced sensors, PTL and an Engine Upgrade, so many manoeuvre possibilities.

I have the PRocket cards, I just don't have Veteran or Autothrusters, but I like the idea of Jake and Poe, as I could distract the enemy with Poe and a few fighters while Jake flanks them and stays out of arc...easier said than done.

Jake is fairly awesome at arc-dodging, given the silly good A-Wing dial, combined with a boost and barrel roll virtually every turn if needed he's one slippery tyke

So far I've got,

Jake: PRockets, PTL, Veteran Instincts, Test Pilot, Autothrusters: 33pts

Poe Dameron: R5-P9, Autothrusters, Veteran: 37pts

2xTala Squadron Pilots: 28pts

96pts TOTAL

If I can change the list a bit so I don't have to hunt on Amazon for the Headhunters, then I might, but I like it so far!!

I've had great fun with a Poe, Jake and Kyle Katarn list.

Kyle gets a TLT, a Recon Specialist, hangs back, and hands Jake the necessary extra maneuvers with his ability. If Jake is all set, Poe is always happy to get a free focus.

This. With only a two-dice gun Jake struggles to get damage on high-agility targets (such as the other aces he's often forced to deal with). Proton rockets help a lot with that problem, you only get it once but a pretty consistent 4-5 hits can kill a ship in one shot.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

How do you have VI and PTL on Jake? Dos he have access to two pilot skills?? If so, might be time to sit up and take notice of him!

A Wing Test Pilot title from Rebel Aces, adds an EPT slot, to the maximum of two, as long as PS=2 or more. 0 pts

How about Jake with what I've said last time, but he's with 2 X wing Rookie pilots and a Blue Squadron with Advanced Sensors?

It really depends on what you prefer as a commander. I happen to like Ello a lot, he is very forgiving because of his great dial. If yuo do not give him PTL, he essentially only has a single red maneuver and rarely any stress tacked on. If you happen to give him R5-P9 and he focuses, you're still very versatile.
