Hi Folks

Thought I'd stick something on here to see what you think. This Is a kit bashed and scratch built Imperial Guard 'Hornet attack helicopter I did for Golden Demon back in 2008. I got through to the final and got my certificate and badge etc but sadly missed out on a demon.

This is a very cool model. It's a really good build.

No offense, though, but I find it hard to believe that that paint job made it to the finals of an official GD contest. It's little more than a basecoat, lined highlights, and a wash that looks like Army Painter/dipping method. I've scoured google and I can't find this model on any 2008 GD entries. To be fair, though, there's not much out there on finalists. Seems to be winners for the most part.

http://demonwinner.free.fr/uk/2008/golden_demon_winner.php?categorie=3 are the competition.

I'll refrain from commenting further.

Life is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless and perfunctory gift nobody ever asked for. Unreturnable because all you get back is another box of chocolates. So you're stuck with this undefinable whipped mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down because there's nothing left to drink. Sure once in a while there's a peanut butter cup or a English toffee, but they're gone too fast and the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits of hardened jelly and teeth shattering nuts. If you're desperate enough to eat those all you've got left is a. An empty box, filled with useless brown paper wrappers.

Exactly what I replied with. That website, as well as others, only show the winners, not the ones that made it to the final round. So, I guess I'm not sure what you're trying to say? Maybe you shouldn't refrain from commenting further... just keep it nice.

I am honestly not sure why you are calling Elblodino out over this claim. Was he supposed to post his GD entry certificate along with the model? This whole line of inquiry is unnecessary, seems petty, and detracts from the point of this thread- discussing a very cool conversion.

Probably best to leave the GD stuff alone and enjoy the bad-ass little Hornet for what it is--a well crafted kitbash.

Which is EXACTLY what I said in my opening line.

Everything I said was on topic and not the slightest bit rude or mean. If discussing the OP's claim that it was a Golden Demon finalist is not to be discussed, then I think the OP shouldn't have said anything about it. This is a discussion forum where we discuss things. I never insulted him. Never said anything angry. He made a claim, I doubted the claim and commented on it. Not once did I bash the painting skills of the OP or the paint job of the model. It looks quite decent. I would certainly gallery rate it at an above tabletop quality, but not at a GD finalist level.

Are we not allowed to take a contrary position here? Are we supposed to only heap praise on everything anyone posts? As long as it's not mean, I don't see the problem. I do see a problem with you aggressively calling me out, however. I was on topic and well within the forum's TOS.

Seems I struck a nerve.

Aggressively calling you out, eh? That is cute.

You are free to be "contrary", though I don't think that is accurate to what you are doing in this thread. Instead you are hiding your criticism of the paint work behind the ridicuolous stance that because you don't think the paint work is sophisticated there isn't a possibility that this could have been a GD entrant. So you did some "research" and couldn't find this entry which left you free to heavily imply the the OP is a liar (and a bad painter, double score!). Really the paint work is more than adequate. It is shaded, highlighted, has realistic weathering and is well presented--all elements that would be found on a competition piece.

All in all your hunt for the "truth" here seems needlessly antagonistic and off-topic. Especially for a contest nearly a decade in the past. But you do you, man.

This is the 2nd time you've referred to "GD entry" whilst attempting to lambaste me for "calling him out." In being such a try-hard and talking smack to me, you've based your entire argument in err. Nobody (except for you) said anything about his model being an "entrant". He said it was a finalist and I questioned it. He didn't say he had a "GD entry certificate." He said he got to the finals and had a certificate.

You can stop derailing this thread with baseless arguments now and allow this thread to get back on topic.

That looks more than good enough to get a finalists pin, it's well executed, and the flash will have affected the colour so it no doubt looks better in reality. Well done mate.

I really like bashes like this - where you can see where it came from, but it looks well executed and totally fits the new role. Great job.

Did you ever get to field it, or was it for display only?

The fact that you used a Sentinel makes me think of the Striker VX from Command and Conquer 3 lol. Good job.

Also, Ghidorah, his link shows the three finalists at that GD. While the Vanquisher looks pretty rad, I think he stood a good chance at 2nd and 3rd place, especially since the 3rd place one is also looks like " a basecoat, lined highlights, and a wash" job too.
