I'll start off by saying that I play 40k for fun and this isn't for a tournament, just looking for something new to try against my buddy who (usually) plays CSM.
I've never played the exact same list twice and I enjoy trying out new ideas. So I'm wondering if any of you have any unusual Ork combinations or units that you like using or think would be fun to try out? Such as underused units with HQs attached for a kunnin' but brutal surprise or well known units used in a different manner.
One idea I'm toying with at the moment is using Mogrok's Bossboyz formation and attaching the three Big Meks to a full unit of KMKs/smasha gunz; Mogrok with MA and the other two with SAGs, perhaps with the ML2 Wierdboy hoping for Da Jump. Then utilising the other formation bonuses to outflank with acute senses a couple of Tankbustas units.
I've got most of the codex units available to me, looking forward to hearing any ideas you've got

- Bikes can also detach at any time.
- loot'as can shoot after teleport (slow and purposeful).
- its a big unit for teleport but its a great way te rearrange the models when you deep strike.

Lots of Warbosses, Painboy and Zhadsnark if FW is allowed, all on bikes. Attach to a Deffkopta and scout for a Warboss star.
Wierdboy roll on Santic and attach to Meganobz with Big Men with Mega Force Field (4++) and Grotsnik. Possible to get S10 W2 FnP TH/SS Termites for Orks.
Blitz Brigade and Flash Gitz - Get them into range before the game starts and have them firing at BS3 the whole game.
Mogroks formation is just gravy... Outflank Bommas, Warbikes, Tankbustas...
Also Lucky Stick and MA is amazeballs as always

My two favorite HQ choices have been a simple Big Mek with Finkin Kap to give my whole army two Strategic warlord traits, and then hiding him (solo) in reserves, or behind a ruin, out of LOS.
And my Ork Wyrd boy never dissapoints, whether he psychic Vomits all over some terminators, or frazzle scatters on to his own boyz, I always have fun using him.

I'd like to try Bully Boyz in Trukks with Green Tide w/MA KFF DLS Big Mek and Grotsnik (and 2 min grots for troops).
Everything but the grots are Fearless and WS 5!

Some brilliantly crazy ideas! I think I'll have to try out some shenanigans with MFF and Weirdboys hoping for nice rolls on Sanctic to beef up Mega Nobz/Biker Nobz. I'm always put off Demonology because of the increased chance of perils but I'll have to give it a go soon.
I'm also hoping that the IA update will give us all some opportunity to try out some new combinations, whenever it may be - I don't think I'll be using Zhadsnark any more until its released

A fun one is bringing the IA8 dread mob in the WAAAGH Ghazzy detachment. Then you get to potentially deep strike everything. Plus since the deff dreads are troops they deep strike on a 5+ instead of a 6. Another fun one is taking the dread mob from the ghazzy supplement in addition to the Gorkanaut Krushin Krew. It can technically fit in at 2000 points but 2500 would be better. Then you can take pretty much all armor and it can do a ton of damage. With 2 morkanauts in the dread mob and the three gorks in the krew with the big mek from the mob with a KFF or MFF in one of them they can sort of just walk forward and ignore most units. Superheavies and such will beat them up 1-1 but in my experience either 2 naughts or a few dreads can normally take them down as well. Also it has a fair bit of firepower for a more assault oriented list. I enjoy it but im probably the only one crazy enough to have that many naughts.

If you got a lot of weirdboyz then you can start rolling with a low amount of warp charge to "prevent" perils. If the get perils anyway then you can use the painboys feel no pain + reroll with grots.

I'm planning to run 2 wierdboyz in a blob of boyz, bully boyz and vsg. Wierdboyz are gona create a cute lil daemon factory. They're one of the cheapest point-per-warpcharge in game. They'll peril and die or die from hits for not casting powers but it's gona be fun anywayz.

I like running my weirdboys with tankbustas. The benefit is that the tankhunter special rule confers to the Weirdboy's powers. So Frazzle, Da Krunch, Power Vomit, and Killbeam will all get to re-roll pen checks. Although if you generate warpath and 'eadbanger you may be better putting him with a different unit.

1) Von Straub from the apocalypse book if you have access to an AM company commander model and your opponent is okay with it. Even though it's from apocalypse it's just a guard company commander leading a squad nobz. I bring it to every apocalypse game and its always super fun.
2) A detachment from the Ghazzy supplement where all your units roll to see if they can deepstrike. This is always spectacularly fun and usually spectacularly fails. The fluff is that the orks are using telyporta technology but I like to imagine trukks full of boyz flying in like meteors and crashing onto the battlefield. Double down with a level 2 weirdboy and try to get Da Jump for even more silly deepstrike shenanigans.
3) Big meks can make fun support HQs. They can take mega armor, plasma weapons, and the shokk attack gun and you can make weird shooty/repair units with lootas/tankbustas/flashgitz/mek guns/meks that can put out surprising damage when they get lucky. With the right warlord traits they can really improve an otherwise fragile unit, and even without they give a much needed leadership boost plus the ability to tank some shooting in mega armor.

|
A full squad of stromboyz with a Painboy on bike attached. Plus try to get da fink in kap to see if you get master of ambush. 30 fast as gork choppa boyz with fnp infiltrating or outflankiny is loads of fun, they are the definition of blood axes who like a little speed.

Ya the ghazzy detachment can be hilarious with deepstrike. I like to hope my orkanauts get it and I picture them crashing to the ground as well even though they teleported. It's funny having a gorkanaut land behind the IG defense line.

I've once used mogrok bossboyz to outflank a gorkanaught with combi-skorcha meganobz inside. The idea was fun but the naught only appeared turn 4 and all it did was kill one space marine. Than the game ended. So...naughts failed as usual.

Ahh mine are normally superstars. The morks save with the KFF and the gorks normally rampage around until turn 4 or so and then they explode. I like them. They aren't the best but I like them.

Not really "unusual" per say but my main list strategy is what I refer to as the Blitz-a-krieg which is a Blitz Brigade (some with killkannons) full of shootas, flash gitz, tankbustas with 3 Dakkajets. Basically its turn 1 with my entire army scouted into good cover/firing position and inside 5 battlewagons. Turn 2 the boyz pile out and hopefully most of the dakkajets fly on to lay down some dakka during a WAAAGH!
