Hi guys, I'm new

And I have a question. I'm asking it here cause I don't think i'm allowed to post a topic anywhere else (right now)

1 thing that I've always wondered.

Shoulder pads, OK I know 2nd Company are yellow, 3rd is red and 5th is Black (following the codex).
But since there are 100,000 + Imperial Fists in the galaxy...there has to be thousands of Company's right?

What colour would the shoulder pad trims be for say the 80th Company, or the 337th Company.

Cheers!

For the Emperor

Hi and hold on now.

There are not 100,000 Imperial Fists. Imperial Fists are a Chapter of the Space Marines.
As a Chapter, they have Yellow as a primary colour. Each chapter is 1000 Marines, organized into 10 Companies. Each with a different secondary colour, accoring to the Codex Astartes (examples for secondary colours can be found in every Space Marine codex).

And if you're talking 30k, I think the whole Legion had the same colours (yellow and black).

if 40k: there's only 10 companies of Imperial fists (as there is only 1,000 imperial fists, not counting successors). the companies are as follows: Veteran (white), Battle Companies( 2nd (Gold), 3rd (red), 4th(green), 5th (black), 6th (Orange), 7th (Pruple), 8th (grey), 9th (blue), 10th (technically white, but they are all scouts, so....) Companies 2-5 are all battle companies (6 tacticals, 2 assault, 2 devastators), company 6 is all tacticals, but they all also deploy all as bikers, company 7 is all tacticals, but they all also deploy all as land speeders, Company 8 is all Assault marines, Company 9 is all devastators, company 10 is all of the scouts.

if 30k: There is no Markings beyond the regular legion ones for shoulder pads. Company 998 and 773, and 30, and 2 all look the same. Technically, for the Imperial fists, the first company is a different scheme all together as opposed to different shoulder pads.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

Just want to point out, the 10th Company does have a different colored shoulders, it is only on the Captain's Power Armor. It would actually be whatever the color of the main shoulder pad is, though. In this case, yellow (not 2nd Company Gold).

In 30K, only the Templar Brethren had different colored armor.

Can someone please then explain these numbers?

http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Space_Marine_Legion

Are these then only relative to 30k?

Only 30k. Imperial Fists are no longer a Legion. They have been split into several different, 1000 man strong, Chapters. These Chapters include stuff like the Crimson Fists, Excoriators, Celestial Lions, and a host of others. Of the First Founding Chapters, they are second only to the Ultramarines in their number of Successor Chapters.

This is for 40k. It's a few editions old, but it still essentially shows the breakdown.

Spoiler:

The other thing is: Paint them however you want and call them a Task Force.
