How's the quality of GW's resin minis, since they dropped the finecast label? I vaguely recall something about FW doing the casting, or at least using the same resin as FW. Any info?

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

GW resin (however it's called these days) is fine. Not as good as Forgeworld resin and feels a bit like rubber, but I had no problems in the past year with an unusual amount of air bubbles or other miscasts.

It's still Finecast resin, with the name dropped.

Some of the original issues, such as gradually drooping and such are gone.

It's still soft enough to scrape with very little effort.

LotR and Hobbit will be moving to FW resigns eventually, so there's a saving grace.

in my experience, it's rubbish...
sad too, because there are quite a few minis i would still like to add to my collection, but my last year of working with the stuff has convinced me not to buy models like Farsight, who cannot be trusted not to droop at the ankle...
the clean-up and bends are horrible, too...
GW plastic, and FW resin, are the only things i will spend my money on...

i have seen a lot of good Inq 28 conversions using GW resin, since cutting it is way easier than metal...
if you are planning on doing a lot of cutting and sculpting anyway, it looks to be worth the effort to make a cool bespoke mini...

cheers

I have 1 GW resin model (Tau commander) ordered last year and it is basicly trash.
Bubbles, morphed parts, bad fit and so on.

It's a choice between two versions of the HE everqueen mini, one a lot cheaper than the other. TBH I've just seen that neither are described as finecast - I just made assumptions because the cheaper one 'looks' more finecasty. (Though still complete, with few visible warps or bubbles) Which makes this topic a bit moot for my purposes. Still, I might be able to replace the staff with brass rod, and pin and resculpt the feet, at least. As a precaution, and to hopefully make her fit in a chariot.

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.
