Hey guys, I have a catacomb command barge, and I'm really not sure how I should be using him. I've seen people mention that it has (had?) a sweeping attack, but I can't find rules for it anywhere for the life of me. Mostly he just sits around and shoots at stuff because I can't figure out what to do with him. Thanks for any advice!

The sweeping attack was in the last codex. Otherwise the CCB is a somewhat decent shield against shooting attacks - by taking anything not strong enough to dmg AV13 on the Chariot and anything else on the 4++4/5+++ of the overlord. With a war scythe it is decent hunting other vehicles (can move 12 and essentialy has fleet) or killing troops.

If you haven't built it up yet, I would build it as an Annhilation Barge and get a free Overlord out of the deal. He looks a lot better than "Want to taste my tiny melon!?" clampack lord that is available now.

I concur. Since loosing the sweep attack the annihilation barge is the winner for me...

Even then, the Annihilation Barge isn't really all that hot, either.
I mean, yeah, it can still put out a bunch of hits, but losing the ability to effectively cover your anti-air duty really dropped its battlefield value.
That combined with its relatively short range, price, and vying for the Heavy slot with the more useful Heavy Destroyer squad... to be honest, not all that appealing of a pick for me (I'd much rather put those points into a Night Scythe).

I was about to say. People are preferring the A-barge? Really? It's so useless now, compared to other options. And the CCB is great. Either zoom forward with a Warscythe and a flamer, or stand back and shoot 5 AP3 shots with a 12" bubble of rerolling morale checks. They made it actually benefit units around it, instead of just being a killing machine. (After all, it's supposed to be an Overlord leading his troops into battle, not killing everything himself. Hence why I like the nerf.) But all in all, it's tough to deal with, and can do decent damage whichever way you want to kit him out.

Is it really, though?
You gotta ask yourself: is there anything it can do that something else can't do better/for cheaper? Chances are that answer will be no.
And keep in mind, this thing can be locked in combat (and once in combat, the attacker gets to decide where the hits are delivered, so rarely does it last a second round).
The case is, neither of the Barges are all that worth taking anymore.

I recommended the Annhilation Barge cuz in Canada, a Barge set can make the AB and a Necron Overlord for 45 bucks, while the Clampack Necron Overlord is 35 bucks.
In essence you're getting the barge for 10 bucks.

Umm, you build the overlord separately either way, and can just make hit literally "ride" on the chariot...

Yeah but you can't use the barge that way. It's either in the barge or on foot. If you can magnetize it then by all means, but otherwise loading it up as an Annhilation Barge at least lets you use both models at the same time.

Best way to use the CCB is in a Reclamation legion and within 12" of all your foot sloggers for the re-roll 1's for RP. Otherwise it's a toss up. Do you want a STR 7 AP - Tesla 4 or do you want a highly mobile and highly shootable warlord?

Highly shootable? He's highly survivable, and completely immune to anything S6 or less in shooting. And melta and other various heavy weapons? Take it on his 4++/4+++ with ITWD.

It's not great, but we have to take at least one HQ, and the others aren't anything to write home about either.

That's true, though it might depend on your feelings towards SCs.

ive been using a naked lord with a Warscythe on a CCCB recently and have been happy with him at 155pt. Sure you can add 100+ pts of gear on him but it only really helps against drop poding melta. I find that the points can be better spent on wraiths or something else

Something a bit more complimentary, tbh.
All our HQs really have is survivability, which we already have oodles of. Their shooting is poor, short-ranged and doesn't really gel with any of our shooty units. Their melee is far from great (Warscythes are nice weapons, but our lords lack the WS and attacks to be a serious threat with them against most targets that can fight back). Moreover, they lack the speed to keep up with the melee units they'd be most useful in - Wraiths and Praetorians. They also come with no support abilities, and any they can bring come in the form of one-use-only artefacts (not exactly a long-term role then ). Granted, the destroyer lord brings preferred enemy (though his WS is even worse, if you can believe that), but if you're using a Decurion he's not among the options you can choose as an HQ.
Nemessor is an exception to the above though. He's a good HQ,
Here's the thing though - I'm not saying our HQs are actually bad. Unlike, say, the DE ones, they don't make me want to cough up blood or anything. I just feel that (Nemessor aside) they just don't bring much to the army.

I have been really liking zandrekh, but I agree that most of the other ones seem pretty lackluster. I have mostly been torn on whether to run my ccb naked or deck him out a little. For the most part, I feel like I very rarely fail my LD checks anyway, so rerolling is alright but I honestly don't think I've ever been in a position to take advantage of it. That being said, the annihilation barge doesn't exactly blow me over either. I'm just torn on whether to assemble my kit into the ccb or the barge

... do you not realize that you dont HAVE to permanently choose one or the other?
Just assemble the barge without attaching the gun or the railing. Those pieces can be removed so you can alternate between models from game to game... but the sad truth is, neither is really worth playing compared to what else you could bring for the points.
