I recently purchased the Dark Vengeance starter pack, but I have a 10 man tactical squad of fully painted Blood Angels ready and I don't really want to start up an entirely new army of Dark Angels. Am I allowed to paint the supplied Dark Angels models as Blood Angels, and if so will I still be able to use them in games, following the rules of the Blood Angels codex? Any advice is appreciated.

Hi. Welcome to Dakka. You can use the models as BA just fine, I would recommend filing off the DA insignia on the shoulder pads though to avoid confusion.

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

@War Kitten Thank you so much for clearing that up! I was worried I'd have to start up an entirely new army. So does this only apply to the tactical marines or can I also use the Deathwing Terminators and bikes for the Blood Angels as well?

Do not be worry. It should be ok to paint the DA guys red and the people that you play with should be totally ok. That is some form of proxying and I think the people will be just fine with it. Once I proxied tactical squad into sternguard veterans and another tine I rolled Ultramarines as Iron Hands, because I desperately wanted to feel what is it like to use different chapter tactics.

But if the DA symbols really annoy you you can do what I did with my DA tacticals from the Veangance Set you can do this, think of a cool chapter name and pronounce your marines successor chapter to Blood Angels - your own custom chapter that will use Blood Angels rules and will be their succesor aka they will still be blood angels. That's flexible, because in the 41st millenium there are so many successor chapters that you can easily have Ultra Angels for example (the chapter of a guy I know)

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka
