i plan to start a admech/skitarii and was wondering if somebody could help me with what to buy when starting as i dont really know to much about skitarii/admech so if somebody could give me some guidance that would help a lot thanks

Ok then.

Your best bet (when starting) is to buy the Admech/Skitarii "New Year, New Army" boxset, as it gives you a special formation and a bunch of models for free (the box is £50, and the Onager Dunecrawler is already £42 so the rest is practically free)

I would also say for you to build skitarii vanguard instead of rangers as they have a better to wound rate than the rangers

with the box set it comes with Tech-Priest Dominus but isnt he a cult mechanicus hq and this is skitarii?

No as the formation is only for whats in the box
however there are other formations out there that allow you to field the tech priest with skitarii (such as the War Convocation)

No the formation that comes in the box is one tech priest, one vanguard unit and one dunecrawler. The only other way to run him is war convocation from White dwarf. What you can do is use the box formation and add it to a skitarii maniple.

The new Skitarii Start Collecting Set is the best way to go about it right now, as the Onager and Vanguards would be the basis of your army. Even if you can't use the Dominus in a normal Skitarii army, you can disregard it as it's still cheaper than buying an Onager and Vanguard separately.

The Skitarii as a whole only has 4 different kits (although everything but the Onager can be built as something else, so it feels like there's more) so after getting two boxes of the Starter, you can look into getting some Dragoon striders or Rust Stalkers.

Normally I'd say get the Codex first but it sounds like a codex update is on the way (although it could be months off) that would let you field Cult Mechanicus and Skitarii as one force, so don't discount the dominus just yet.

Well, for starters, you want a good number of Vanguard/Ranger boxes.

I would also recommend buying the Start Collecting! boxed set. Put the Dominus in a drawer and paint the Vanguard and Onager. Then, buy a second Start Collecting! boxed set. Put the Dominus on eBay and paint the Vanguard and Onager. Congratulations, you now have a legal, fully-painted Skitarii army!

Spend some time on Dakka, view the existing Tactics threads, and ask more questions as you look to grow your army.

Vanguard or rangers???

Vanguard are able to threaten a lot more things due to how there guns work.

The get started box is still the best value for pure skiitari. If I really wanted to start skits I would buy 3 of those, sell one TPD on ebay, and keep the other two for when AdMech gets combined into a single codex this year.

3 squads of skiitari (3 ten man squads who each get 3 of the same weapon) and 3 Onagers is the best skiitari starting list hands down.
