a bit of spoilers but Horus after spending a long time in the warp on Molech is stated to have aged significantly, but hide it using psychic tricks. Even primarchs can age albiet at a very slow rate. Whether they would die however seems to be up in the air.

Also, "old age" isn't a thing that actually kills you. People don't just get to be 80 or so and are like, "well, I'm old, now I die." Something has to fail, which is what increasing entropy like that would do, causing his organs to fail.

Also isn't there a salamander marine in one of that salamander series who had hidden on a planet besieged by orks since the heresy...who was so old he died? I don't know if they were going for indiana jones and the last crusade vibe... I have the book somewhere but am quite happy to never look at it ever again due to massive amounts of derp (flying librarian super powered dude solving all plot lines)

The details about marines in dreadnoughts slowly deteriorating and being woken less and less frequently seem to point to notable aging occurring. Whether they continue to remain highly cognizant and functional for longer and longer periods seems to be based on their genetics (similar to normal humans).

The Salamander that died did so because he was lounging about in a La-Z-Boy for 10,000 years. Like, he was trapped and did not eat or drink for that entire length of time. All of his muscles atrophied and his power armour was keeping him alive, but yeah, he was alive after 10,000 years with nothing to eat or drink. Talk about plot armour.

Now, we like big books. (And we cannot lie. You other readers can’t deny, a book flops open with an itty-bitty font, and a map that’s in your face, you get—sorry! Sorry!) |

Way back in 2. edition, Codex: Ultramarines stated that Marines only started to show signs of aging when they were 300 years old. I don't know if that's changed since then but there's also some more recent background about Marines becoming to old to fight and "retiring": "Although the Codex describes a number of ranks and responsibilities within the headquarters staff, only a very few of these officers actually accompany the Chapter to war. Many are non-combatants of advanced years whose roles are to find and train recruits or administrate the Chapter ..." - Codex: Space Marines, 5. edition, p. 16

Good catch, and it is said that although they are long lived, they are not immortal.

And Codex Grey Knights also mentions this.
Codex Grey Knights, 5e, p.24 wrote:A small few Librarians are fortunate enough to reach an age when their bodies can no longer meet the rigours of campaign. Such warriors are removed from the Chapter's fighting roster entirely and retire to the labyrinthine corridors of the Sanctum Sanctorum
And Blood Angels are of course known for their longer lifespan in comparison to other Marine lineages.
Codex Blood Angels, 5e, p.12 wrote:Physically the Blood Angels are among the longest lived of all the Space Marine Chapters. One of the peculiarities of their aberrant gene-seed is that it has vastly increased the lifespan of those who bear it, so it is not uncommon for Blood Angels to live for a thousand years.
Which if they are not killed, can typically live for two to three times the span of a regular man, and sometimes longer.
Warhammer 40,000, 6e, p.181 wrote:With their genetically enhanced bodies, Space Marines live extended lifetimes - if they do not fall in battle, they can easily live two to three times longer than a normal man, and sometimes far longer.

That might not be age, just wear and tear on their bodies.
Even if we all agree to the idea of "Marines are Immortal, not Invulnerable" Every wound that fails to kill them would still add up over time and just make them too battered to go to war, barring extenuating circumstances like a major invasion of the Chapter's Homeworld(s).

That marine was dying due to starvation, and it was actually the Apothecary who put him out of his misery. His body had atrophied to the point where moving him would have killed him, so it was impossible to save him.

Haha 10 000yr dehydration! I just remember it being a pretty awful read (up there with assault on priscina or whatever that one was called) and was the last BL book I recall buying!
Back to the OP second edition had Dante as the oldest at 1000. I do recall a really cool story I codex imperialis where a thousand son marine having to purge his memory because 10 000 years would drive him insane. It also explains some of the crazy behaviour by veterans of the long war as their minds become disjointed..
