It’s time for a new project – this time Imperial Guard army with some Chaos flavor. This is however not some rag-tag force of traitors and mutants, but the elite force of veterans and Stormtroopers from an ice-world, hardened in the harsh environment and experienced in many campaigns.

These are delicious.

I really like the scheme and look of the army, but I can't really see them as chaos. Take the banner away and you've got an army covered in aquilas. I know it's the customers models, so that's not on you guys. Shaving off all the aquilas would have added a lot to the chaos look though.

This. Nothing says "chaos" to me.

Beautiful paint scheme, yes, but as the above have said, there's no chaos imagery.

Absolutely beautiful paintjob.

As others have said - needs more spikes, skulls and mutations!

Chaos isn't always that though. The imperial eagles haven't even been removed and/or desecrated. It just looks half arsed.

It’s time for an update. What a Guard army (loyal or traitor) can be without some tanks?

And answering the questions, it was meant to be done with minor Chaos incursions, with presence of the Imperial imagery. Not every traitor army is the bunch of possessed madmans. Perhaps this regiment is associated with Alpha Legion, what would justify the presence of both Imperial and Chaos imagery?

Tanks look good. The whole army looks good, and although I agree that not all chaos should be loons, for it to be a chaos army I'd like to see a little more than just a chaos star here and there. Desecrating the aquilas as Grimtuff suggested would have been a good way to suitably emphasis their allegiance. Again though, I completely understand that that is a customer decision, and has nothing to do with the work that you have done.

Absolutely no question that the army looks amazing, just maybe some missed opportunities for some crazy conversions.

But seriously still looks good!

It looks like a great Guard army.

I mean, I get that you have to think of the customer's wishes and everything--but nothing about this army says "Traitor Guard". A cursory glance at any of the fluff would have shown how you could have an army that appears to be Guardsmen at a distance but close-in details make it clear that their loyalty is not to the Throne anymore.

That huge tank is awesome! Looks fantastic, my favorite so far.

I think the army as a whole looks brilliant. Really cool paint scheme, especially on the tanks which look awesome!

I have to say I like the idea of a subtly tainted IG force. It actually makes it all the more scary thinking that these guys have been turned to Chaos but still appear from a distance to be normal Guardsmen.

This isn't "subtly tainted" though. The only Chaos iconography appears on the tanks and that banner--and there's very little subtle about those!
It would have been no effort at all to file down or take an exacto knife to the aquilas and remove them.

Additionally, I didn't notice this before but:

The sponson on this tank is at a huge angle. Why?
And why are the tips of the plasma gun so pristine?

First, you do not know the agreement between the contracted painters and the client. If the client didn't specify those alterations it is not the fault of the painters for the lack of "realism" of these tainted guard.

Secondly, it is hyperbole of the highest order to say that it would have taken "no effort at all" to file off the aquilas. There are what? 60 or so infantry-sized figures, plus multiple tanks. That sort of alteration would take a not insignificant amount of time. But this isn't a matter of leaving a bit off during assembly, you are suggesting a time commitment of at least a few hours to do a proper job of removing those elements, and time = money in the commission business. Perhaps the client didn't want to spend the money on those conversions and dumped it into the painting instead?

Lastly, the fluff does give instances of traitor regiments that are mostly unaware they are aligned with Chaos. And the fluff indicates that most Imperial citizens are unaware of Chaos and its iconography, so if the senior command of this regiment fell to Chaos it is quite possible they would leave their men unaware of their new allegiance save for some new "honors" bestowed to them by the high command.

Something like:

"Hey men, we have been blessed with a new standard and tank markings for our continued success fighting our cursed enemies. Praise to the true emperor!"

Actually with the tanks it is a case of leaving them off during assembly....

All of those scrolls and imperial eagles are from the land raider kit IIRC.

It's exactly like this. With getting the army to the armywide shot, the sponson must've been angled a bit when other models were put in close proximity and overlooked. Please take a note at the additional armour magnetization option for every tank It's the magnet only.

But it's good to spot the imperfection, even if it's only on the photo - thank you for this.

The snow is a baking soda mixed with PVA glue and white paint.

Great stuff. Love the white and the slight traitor feel.

It looks great as a cohesive tabletop army, but in close ups you can see some issues;

I'm surprised nobody else has mentioned this, but you forgot to fill the giant gaps on the camo-cloaks, especially the front-center guardsman.
