I like the idea of a bike deathstar (Or, at least, the closest Orks have to deathstars), and I'm basing mine around a Warboss on bike, Painboy on bike, and either a whole bunch of regular Ork Bikers or fewer Nob Bikers (with Big Choppas and Power Klaws). I'm drawn toward the Nobs because of the better statline and more upgrades, but I'm not sure if just having more bodies would be more efficient, point for point.

Thoughts for my speed freaks?

I'd go with regular bikers. Nobs are just way too many points for what you can get in regular bikers for me. It's the warboss and PK nob that are going to do the heavy lifting in combat anyway and by spending a similar amount of points for the rest of the squad, you'll get twice as manny dakkagun shots!

Nobbikers went the way of the dodo when they lost their invul save and static 4+ cover. Theyre still uber expensive to field and nowhere near as deadly since its a lot easier to splat them than before thanks to lack of an invul. By splat i dont just mean S10 i mean ignoring cover, penning armor, and wounding reliably so they ONLY have a FNP save with the painboy.

Warbikers are just so much better for the cost now. Downside is thats a huge footprint, i sometimes struggle fielding a single unit + boss + painboy along side my boyz lol. Theyre way cheaper, offering on average 3 wounds for the same cost a nob gives you 2 give or take some points. They are S3 instead of S4 sadly, but that rarely is a gamebreaker for me since the very few things S4 on the charge cant hurt reliably usually the Nobklaw and Boss with Lucky Stikk in the unit eviscerate anyway.

The sheer amount of attacks and ~+1 wound vastly outweighs the -1 strength stat. And i find you virtually never need more than a Warboss PK, so losing the ability to have multiple PKs in a unit isnt that big of a deal either.
Not to mention the additional bodies = additional Dakkaguns. They fire snaps if you want your coversave now, so the usual ~5 Nobs for several hundred points suddenly got a lot less nasty but the 15 warbikers for 300pts is still deadly as hell.

Warbikers are easily the best damn thing we have in the current dex. And tbh that kinda makes me upset because it went from Codex: Nobbikers to Codex: Warbikers.

I agree with the above posters.

Also, Zhardsnark, the Forgeworld special character can give Warbikers Scout, and make them troops. Scouting Troop warbikers are way, way better than nob bikers.

I think Zhardsnark also gives his unit +1 to their cover save if they Turboboost.

They get that for being an Ork bike. Zhardsnark gives them an additional +1 for skilled rider, but he would give that to either Nob Bikers or Warbikers. He even gives it to Deff Koptas, which is another consideration.

Deff Koptas can give you durable ablative wounds and scout to a Warboss on Bike.
