Hardened Veteran Guardsman

Hi all
Just a couple of quick questions.. I'm thinking of having an inquisitor in my force of grey knights/ imperial guard so I can use him in either force, which inquisitor setup is considered to be the best value for points for guard/ GK.
Another question is Dark Angels what is considered the competitive units for DA if there are any.. and would they be better being taken as an ally to a CAD of codex marines?
Cheers for the feedback

Ravenwing is the backbone of Dark Angel competitiveness. You can ally in the strike force and guarantee to come in second turn with some hard hitting and hard to hit bikes. The ravenwing black Knights/command squad are awesome. Our Librarians can off some great and unique psychic powers as well. A lot of great stuff in Ravenwing.

I'm drawn to ordo malleus.. but if I take an allied detachment of inquisition do I need a retinue for them in the shape of a henchmen war band or not?

Are they not allowed as HQ or elites anymore?
Also fluff wise dark angels don't really do inquisitors, but this is about competive, so if it's still legal, I'd suggest servo skulls to infiltrate ahead and stop counter scout and infiltrations.

It's because they get rad grenade access and one of their warlord traits is preferred enemy: xenos.

The only compulsory option in an Inquisition detachment is 1 HQ, so you can take as many Inquisitors as you want and don't have to take Henchmen (assuming you don't have a restriction on the number of detachments you can take).
As for what type of Inquisitor, it depends what kind of role you want them to have. For example:
Close combat - Ordo Xenos Inquisitor with rad and psychotroke grenades
Shooty - Ordo Xenos Inquisitor with conversion beam
All rounder - Coteaz
I make all my Inquisitors psykers, I think it's worth the points. Servo skulls are usually worth it too.

Thank you for your responses.
Would it be worth taking a force sword if I take the pysker option for the ordo malleus? If he can only use one psychic power per turn would it be worth using force or going for a different order?

Force swords are worth taking as they come included with the psyker upgrade. If you don't use the Force power you at least have an AP3 melee weapon.
If you really want an Ordo Malleus Inquisitor I'd either give him a hell rifle (cheap option) or Terminator armour, psycannon and psybolt ammo (expensive option).
If you're taking Terminator armour don't take a force sword, keep the Daemon hammer.

My plan is to run him with a large blob of guardsmen so would using him with a force sword and bolt pistol keeping him in carapace or taking a hell rifle and putting him with the ccs?

Ordo Xenos Inquisitor with ML 1 going for hammerhand, Rad grenades, and Psychotroke grenades. Very nice force multiplying character. Of course I like to charge things with my blobs of guardsmen so you might not get as might mileage out of this build if you don't like to do that.

I'd keep him in the blob squad to maximise his buffs.
If the squad isn't going to move much a hellrifle is good as it's a heavy weapon.

Ordo Xenos inquisitors are the ones that have access to all the weird stuff, which is good in a supplementary role since they can debuff enemies and play around with rule shenanigans. Ordo Malleus is, quite literally, the Hammer of the force, having more straight forward equipment that gets the job done in the bluntest way possible (you can't really go wrong with a spellcasting Inquisitor in terminator armor and Daemonhammer, which is fairly cheap and can get most jobs done).
Ordo Hereticus ones are the weird ones, as they lie somewhere in between Malleus and Xeno as having a few cool tricks up their sleeves, but not as many durable options or much in the way of hardhitting weapons (minus their inferno pistols).

El Torro is right, you might as well take the free force sword (unless you want the AP2 hammer on the terminator armor). Just because he's a ML1 psyker he can still attempt more than one psychic power per turn as long as you have enough warp dice.
Also, if you decide to go terminator armor w/psycannon don't waste points on psybolt ammo. The psycannon cannot benefit -- it is not listed in the rules entry for Psybolt Ammo. Because if you think about it fluff-wise, a psycannon is already an assault cannon with psybolt ammo included. Besides, I don't pay for psybolt ammo in general. It never seemed worth it to me to get +1S on a single gun.

I always assumed that psybolt ammo worked on psycannons. Now that I've checked it sems it doesn't, as you say.
