I'm trying to convert up a Azrael from the DV commander and I have no clue if he's suppose to be bald or have a clump of hair. His miniature has some fuzz on it, but the art depiction of him has no hair whatsoever. I'm just trying to decide which head to use for him, as that will be the most distinctive part of him (as the Commander otherwise has all of the appropriate equipment). If no one knows, should I just use the hood head and call it a day?

I'd just use a helmet instead and pretend he has the common sense to wear one.

Plot armor is the only thing he needs to keep his skull lol.

That said, marines do age. It's far slower than us normal humans but over time there. Can always play that he lost his hair, or decided to shave it off at some point.

I would say either give him a hooded head, or a helmeted head. Makes him look more mysterious.

I kinda wanna avoid a hooded head because I'm also trying to convert an Ezekiel which uses the same hooded head, so the two might end up looking too similar.

As for using the helmet, since the Lion's Helm is an actual piece of wargear, it runs into issues with the Watcher in the Dark as well as meaning that he'd essentially be Balthasar unconverted, as Balthasar is basically Azrael in all but name (and apparently with the common sense to actually wear his helmet).

How in Gork's rustled jimmies does a bolt round actually go from the magazine and enter the chamber from that? :/

It makes more sense than my theory that it works because they think it should work.

I am pretty sure that Balthasar was intended to basically BE Azrael in all but name. They are basically equipped the same. He even looks like he is wearing the Lion Helm. The robe is really the only sticking point. Just get him a nice back banner from one of the back banners from the DA Upgrade Sprue to put on there.

As to your question, Azrael does have a short-cropped haircut.

He looks very bald in that one and it's the newest piece of art of him I think.

Art in 40k is never to be taken seriously at all considering how inconsistent or downright fething stupid it can be. The only thing that matters is that which is based on the models, and Azrael has a crew cut.

I have seen fluff with him both with and without hair. Without hair in the 6th edition DA codex artwork and also on the cover of the space marine battles novel: Pandorax. However, his model has hair and I have seen other artwork with hair on.

I personally think the best solution would be to use a bald head and paint stubble on it. That way you have the best of both worlds - he has hair, but chose to shave it.

He can grow hair. He's also hundreds of years old and not a poncey Blood Angel, so he may have had more than one hairstyle, including bald.

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Azrael is supposed to have hair, yes. But you might just as well shave him bald, as that is what Azrael probably did when he found out his hair would never be so fabulous as that of a Blood Angel.
It is the true reason the Dark Angels wear hoods. They are ashamed of their hair and afraid the Blood Angels will make snide comments about it.

There could be a spring which forces the round forward into the chamber instead of coming laterally into the chamber. IE: it could chamber much like a breech loader. That would be needlessly complicated however and slow the rate of fire, and it negates the main advantage of the bullpup design(making a long barreled gun shorter and easier to use in confined spaces)

Practically the barrel should go all the way back in the stock, which would give it a longer barrel than most boltguns(thus higher muzzle velocity and damage)

I think it's just the sculptor's goof, as in the latest 6th ed pic of Azrael (the bald one) you can see the Lion's Roar hanging on his shoulder, with the correct bullpup design. The sculptor probably cut that portion out so it'd fit under his armor and the illustrator for the schematic didn't realize it.

The bolt is ejected from the magazine and rolls into a plot hole, that turns out to be a warp portal leading straight into the breech camper, obviously.

I imagine that like most modern militaries they have short haircuts as standard for both cleanliness and so their helmets fit snugly. Then they might bald with age.

I was gonna say "Cassius wants a word with you" before realizing he has the opposite problem as Azrael; namely his MODEL has no hair but his ART does.

It fires pretendium-brand plasma. You're concerned about simple mechanics? This isn't the game setting for you.
