So I am moving to 40k for the army lists, and am going tyranids!!!!!
Now when I use to play them they where a swarm only army back in 6th>?
So I heard there is a new thing that lets you take like carnifex and warriors as base.
So if I started them and went to 2k points.
Can I grab
Swarmlord
Flyrant
6 warriors
4 carni's
These are my favorite units the tyranids have and always where my favs. The reason I said exact ammount is because I own those models lol.
How many hornieguants and their brothers will I need to take. Winning is not TOO important but I also dont want 15 minute set up with a 1 turn game over my army is gone type of thing.
Also is that new book deal worth it? good army list building guide or just a pre picked army kinda like the tau had?

Just with those models you can field a full army as is, now it just depends on what you give them. This is similar to what I like to play actually and in a casual setting does pretty well and is fun.
Maybe try something like this:
Swarmlord 285
Hive Tyrant 2xTLDevs, Wings 230
3xWarriors 2xDeathspitters, 1xBarbed Strangler 110
3xWarriors 2xDeathspitters, 1xBarbed Strangler 110
Carnifex 2xCrushing Claws, 2xAdrenal Glands 300
Carnifex 2xTLDev 150
Carnifex 2xTLDev 150
That's 1335 points, i would recommend not running the Swarmlord without 2 or 3 Tyrant Guard, having 3 guard would boost this list to 1485. then its easy to put 15 points of upgrades somewhere for 1500pts.
Hope that helps in some way.

As above, but I would ditch the adrenal glands on the carnofrxes since they are S10 with CC.
That frees up enough points for a Venomthrope, which will really help with your ground based list.

Yeah don't need them for furious charge its more for fleet to help out with charge ranges. I always fail the first charge so when running CC Fex always pay the extra for fleet now.
That said however Venomthropes are very good and help the entire army.

You could always drop the CC instead of Glands. They'll still be S10 on the charge and with D3 S9 HoW and 5 S10 Ap2 attacks you're pretty much going to destroy almost any vehicle.

There is a Formation that includes 3 broods of Carnifex (that must take a Monstrous Bio Cannon), 1 Tyrannofex and a brood of Warriors (with one Biocannon). That's a lot of big bugs. Then throw in a CAD of whatever Tyrants you want, but Flyrants are best, and two broods of Rippers with Deep Strike for Obj Sec reasons. Add additional big bugs as you like. If you grab this with Dakkafex (2x Devourers) they all get Split Fire so two beasts per brood, and reroll 1s to Wound. That's some damage right there. I'd take the S10 Cannon on the Tyrannofex just to punch some strong targets in the face before glancing/haywiring it to death but that is just me and there are other combos to think of.
