With my order from [a bits seller] today, I will be getting started on my first (hopefully of many to come) squad of Gue'Vesa for Tau. With a slightly stronger melee and otherwise identical stats to firewarriors, I've been contemplating making the mainstay of my Tau force human aux's. As such I wanted to start a discussion here and get any images, feedback, advice, etc from the community regarding Gue'Vesa.

I assumed that the most recent rules for gue'vesa came from imperial amour III volume 2.
Am I incorrect?

Couldn't say: I don't have that book. However since they're Tau.. Wouldn't they be in a Tau book? Only rules Ive found are the ones floating around online. (Search guevesa rules)

They might be in one of the tau books (mont'ka or the other one). If not, they are in IA3 second edition, which in order to use the gue'vesa requires you to play a mission from that book.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
Orks always ride in single file to hide their strength and numbers.

They're only in the Taros book.

Did some googling - the rules I'd been looking at came from a Chapter Approved. In either case they're most certainly not tourney legal, but since I have no desire to play tourney they'll suit me just fine
That said, I'd love to hear from folks who've actually used them in battle, or folks who've modeled custom units out of IG/Tau parts.

Yeaah...
Don't use those. Get the new Taros Campaign book. Those came from a Chapter Approved, meaning they're at least a decade old.

Any specific reason? The rules (aside from only being deployable on Taros) are identical.

As a rule always take the newer source for your rules.
Tauros campaign was 2013 if I am not mistaken and my guess would be that the chapter approved would be from around ~2001.

Well...
If you're going to use something from a decade-old book, what's to stop the people you're playing from using a decade (or older) codex that has better/more options for their armies than the current?
I mean, Orks, for example, were in a much better place previously than they are now, and 3.5 Chaos is wrecknasty. If you're looking to use old rules for units that have since been updated, what's preventing your opponents from doing the same?
|
It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised. |

presumably - me. And frankly - I'd be down. Im not too keen on the whole "keeping up with the latest". If someone wants to play 3ed, or w.e. - Im down.
